Hi everyone,

My partner and I have decided to TTC. We have been planning for a baby for a number of years now but I have always put it off due to my fear of vomiting during pregnancy. I am trying to be more reasonable about this and am attending therapy, however, I am feeling very nervous about how I can go into work whilst pregnant with nausea/potential vomiting.

Does anybody have any advice as to how I can cope with pregnancy at work? At home I feel I would cope as I won't be under any pressure. But the thought of going into work with this fear is really stopping me again. I work part time in retail.

Thank you x

Not everyone vomits in pregnancy. I’m 18 weeks and haven’t been sick once. I’ve felt nauseous, yes, but not been sick. Don’t stress/worry about something that at the moment is a hypothetical situation/worry ❤️

I've had two pregnancies without nausea, vomiting or heartburn. My third pregnancy I had nausea from 9 weeks but no vomiting. You may not have any and even if you do what works for one person may not work for the other. Also there are meds that you can take as well. Just get pregnant first and see how you get on.

With my first pregnancy I was sick about 10 times in total but never when I had work. It was because when I had work, I got up early, had breakfast straight away and felt better after that. It was the weekends when I lay in and didn't eat early enough that I felt ill and was sick. Second pregnancy I knew how to manage the sickness better so felt generally better although I was sick more often because of the exertion on looking after a toddler.

This time I have worked from home and been sick only 2 or 3 times but have felt the absolute worst this time out of all of them. I think if I was out and about I might have been sick a lot more hut probably felt better for it.

I don't know what I'm trying to say really... Being sick might mean the nausea subsides quicker. You might not feel or be sick at all. There are a lot of coping mechanisms you can use. Travel sickness bands, eating a cereal bar before you get out of bed, staying hydrated, taking pregnancy vitamins with evening meal instead of in the morning, figuring out which foods you just can't have (for me it's sweet stuff). I've found this time I have used so much mouth wash, probably through being at home all the time so it's easier and that takes away horrible tastes the best. Other pregnancies I would keep eating more food to get rid of this awful taste I get after eating something sweet and that made me feel even worse.

Hopefully you won't feel sick at all. Congrats on your pregnancy I hope its a breeze!
