Growth scan

Hello. I'm new on here. I'm really anxious that my baby has a birth defect eg downs or cerebral palsy. Reason being I have been having routine growth scans, everything has been fine until my scan at 34+3 where baby's AC dropped from 67th centile to 38th centile and is also breech. I read that this could be due to a birth defect as none of the other reasons apply, umbilical cord flow and aminiotic fluid ect satisfactory. The unknown is making me feel so anxious. Anyone else been in a similar situation? Thanks in advance

What have the doctors said is the reason for the extra scans ? I had loads of scans, nothing was wrong with the baby.

I have a large dermis cyst, so it's to keep a eye on that.

I've just convinced myself that something is wrong and can't shake the feeling 😭

I don't know what that is, but it doesn't sound like there's a problem with the baby. Why don't you ask your doctor ? Just remember, on balance, it's much more likely that everything is OK.

The dermoid isn't anything to do with baby (it's on my ovary). I'm concerned about the drop in Abdo circumstance. Got another growth scan in 2 weeks but just driving me crazy the waiting and not knowing. I might just be being irrational due to hormones and sleep deprivation

They would have told you if there was a concern re the drop in centile. It's well within the normal range of centiles. The measurements are only rough and the AC measurement depends on how much fluid the baby has swallowed that day. You could call your midwife if you're worried but I think you are worrying for no reason xx

I just wanted to say that I had my baby just in July and I had a growth scans every 2 weeks which’s suddenly turned to every week because at week 34 he had dropped from 98th centile to under 50s. He is a healthy baby boy with no defects. Whatever happened if anything did anyways it needed up resolving itself. Sometimes it’s down to human error. Wishing you the best mama

Thank you for your replies. I'm keeping everything crossed and keeping off google 🤦‍♀️ xx

Hi I just wondered how you got on? My baby is still breech at 36 week scan today, I'm 35+6. Made the mistake of googling breech baby and I see where you got the birth defects info from and now I'm worrying. Although I know breech babies aren't uncommon xx

Growth scans can be really inaccurate so I wouldn't worry too much - it sounds like it's something for the consultant to keep an eye on, but could be nothing. My DC2 looked like he dropped a lot between regular growth scans, enough that we were told there was a 50% chance he would need to come out at 30 weeks. When he was born at 39 weeks he was 75th centile so the scans were wrong. He was also breech all the way through. He's now a bubbly, bright 3-yr-old with no health issues (unless you count an inability to stop talkingSmile).

@ThisOneNow that's a lovely story, thank you for sharing ❤️

@jessicakxx
Baby ended up turning at 37 weeks. It was a mixture of both that and the growth decline. I really wouldn't worry breech babies are very common. I'm 10 days away from having my c section and hoping this anxiety will then lessen. Don't remember feeling this anxious and paranoid with my firstborn xx

Thank you ❤️ I ended up in triage yesterday as felt baby's movements had decreased the past three days, but baby started moving mental as soon as I got hooked onto the ctg of course 😂 however I did have 3 high blood pressure readings so had to have bloods and they've got me back in tonight for a scan and further monitoring. She did have a good feel and said baby is now head down, the scan will show later so feeling a little less worried, although I'm booked for a section next Friday anyway so doesn't matter what position he is in.

Good luck with your section ❤️xx

@jessicakxx
I'm in for my section next Thursday! Let me know how you get on! Good luck xx
