Fizzy pop

I can't stop drinking fizzy pop it's the only thing keeping me awake as I near the end of my pregnancy I'd say I tend to have a small shop bought bottle (I run out on my lunch) probably a day at minute and have done for last about 3 week. I always get diet or Pepsi max. Any other ladies do this. I feel like a terrible mother already but I haven't drank or smoked my entire pregnancy (I did pre pregnancy) so I think we'll surely this small fizzy pop bottle can't do any harm. I also don't drink caffeine (there's none in house as husband can't drink caffeine)

Cut yourself some slack! Towards the end of a pregnancy sometimes you need to find something to give you that bit of extra strength and it sounds like you have. Baby is bigger now, and if you don't drink any other caffeine I can't see it being very harmful at all!

Is it just the one bottle a day? I couldn't quite tell from your post. That's absolutely nothing to worry about in that case but if you really are making yourself feel guilty about it, perhaps you could try to drink as much water as possible and keep the fizzy near you for small sips throughout the day? Just to break it up a bit and trick yourself into thinking you're drinking more than you are?

Bottom line is, I wouldn't worry too much at all!

Of course it won't do you any harm. Why would it?

Don't waste a second's thought on it.

I've never heard of this being an issue, Cherry Coke (full fat!) was pretty much the only thing I could drink and not throw up or have heartburn with in my second pregnancy... I drank atleast a 500ml bottle most days and my 8yo doesn't seem to have suffered any ill effects!

SheWoreYellow · 03/09/2021 15:31

I think the caffeine in a 500ml bottle of coke is about the same as a cup of tea and a half and a bit less than a cup of coffee.
I think that’s fine

Mamainthemaking · 03/09/2021 15:42

I love full fat coke and like you gave up alcohol and cigarettes a year prior to getting pregnant.

I allow myself a can or two each week, even though I’ve cut out all other caffeine.

Your daily allowance is 300mg of caffeine and a can of Coke has 33mg. I think we’re permitted that treat. 😊 I certainly hope so anyway!

I'm 27 weeks pregnant and still have a Diet Coke whenever I want one. Ifs like 40mg of caffeine and we're allowed 200 so it's fine dw

GoodnightGrandma · 03/09/2021 15:57

Diet Coke was the only thing that stopped me throwing up !

SpunBodgeSquarepants · 03/09/2021 15:59

I wouldnt even think twice about this to be honest... You're absolutely fine!

Thebookswereherfriends · 03/09/2021 17:23

During the first three months of my pregnancy I drank a can of sprite every day - I suffered with nausea, was never sick, and it was the only thing that made me feel a bit better. I also went right off all vegetables!

Elisemum · 03/09/2021 18:56

I drunk 7 up and tonic water for the first 4 months - can or sometimes two a day - in both pregnancies. I was so sick it was the only thing that kept me going. Now at the end of pregnancy I still have nausea and again the only thing that helps is ice cold drink: sparkling water, sometimes tonic, sparkling flavoured water, ice tea etc. It’s fine do t worry about it! Unless you drink like 2 litres every day then it’s fine

My craving with my eldest was fizzy pop - just the fizz. He won’t touch the stuff now 😅😅 does make me wonder if it’s because I drank so much of it!
