Low platelets?

Had a letter from the hospital saying I have low platelets(didn’t say how low) and will check my bloods again in 4 weeks.
I’m 13+3.
Anyone else had this and what was the outcome?
Thanks

I have high platelets. Not sure if that helps… tested me again recently and they are still high and some other levels all over the place. Still waiting for some sort of confirmation as to what it is, but from what I can tell it looks like low iron.

Your body may be fighting some sort of infection or illness. Try not to worry, they will keep an eye on it. It’s normal for them to go up and down in pregnancy.

Hi OP. I had this in all 3 of my pregnancies with varying (successful) outcomes. I'm working just now so I will reply again tomorrow x

I had low platelets and it didn't really mean much for me. You can't do much about it, I just had more frequent blood tests just to be told they were always slightly low.

I think it's not recommended to have a c section if platelets are really low

Hi
I had low platelets throughout my pregnancy and had blood tests every 2 weeks.
I was told I couldn’t give birth at the birth centre due to this, but we could possibly use the birth suite in hospital.
My platelets were checked as soon as I arrived at the hospital in labour and they were the highest they’d been for the whole 9 months!
As a result I was allowed to use the birth suite and everything went really well.
Good luck!

Thanks for replying. I’m silently freaking out. All my DC have been premature due to waters breaking early. Never had low platelets flagged up before though

I had low platelets with all 4dc. Platelets renew every 14 or so days hence the frequent blood tests. I had 4 sections but not due to platelet level, infact when I mentioned to my bosses the levels as they were both surgeons, they just smiled and said levels were fine and things only started getting 'fun' when they dropped below a much much lower level. As it happened with all 4dc the levels evened out and increased by my due dates,

I had this, it got pretty low in pregnancy. They will probably just monitor and it's only when they get really low that they worry. It might affect it if you have a c-section and also they might ask you to come in a bit earlier than you otherwise would for the birth so they can test your blood when you arrive. Then for me I had to have a csection and they made sure they had blood on standby which they do anyway. It was just a thing for them to watch out for. And then the monitored me after to check they went back up.

Ah and the consultants birth plan said suction was to be avoided if I went into natural labour.

Ok. Thank you. This is my 4th and, in spite of a few hiccups, all was going quite well. Typical!

GP just called and said the platelets are at 14000 so not really anything to worry about. Feeling less anxious now

OP, do
You think the doc meant 140,000?

Shabbathehut · 02/09/2021 17:47

Oops! Yes.

@Shabbathehut Good idea for them to keep an eye, but mine went below 20k in labour with my first. I ended up with a EMCS under GA as they wouldn't give me a spinal under 30k 😔 Hopefully yours will behave! 🤞🏼

Shabbathehut · 08/09/2021 22:33

Wow that’s low. They aren’t concerned about mine at the moment but will continue to monitor it
