Cold & tickle throat not covid

MrsGxx · 31/08/2021 04:39

Is anybody else suffering a tickly throat and a cold? One minute blocked up next a runny nose?
All negative covid tests, but I haven’t even left the house and I have this awful cold and sore throat (cough) no other symptoms. Is anybody else suffering? 22+5 x

Are you using lateral flow tests or pcr? Covid started the same for me, even the day I went to the drive through for a pcr my lateral flow test came up negative.

gwilt · 31/08/2021 09:15

That's how my recent covid started. Maybe test again with PCR? Won't necessarily show up on LFTs.

Hunkydory99 · 31/08/2021 09:40

Hi OP. I did about three weeks ago, brought home from nursery by DC. I had negative lat flows and a PCR. I just kept myself hid away so I wasn’t coughing and spluttering whilst out and about. Dc recovered in a few days. Took me about 2 weeks to full shift it, suspect my body was more interested in growing a baby than fighting it off. I was 30 weeks when it started

iverunoutofinspiration · 31/08/2021 10:16

Me! Have had negative lateral flow and PCR so it must just be a cold that is going around. It started off mild and then got really quite bad and now I have lot of congestion, a cough and runny nose which does not seem to shift! You have my sympathy x

Hopefulbride18 · 31/08/2021 10:20

I've got the exact same thing too! I'm still awaiting the results of the PCR I did yesterday but lateral flow is showing negative. I'm hoping it's like PP and something DS has bought back from nursery.

Nic2020 · 31/08/2021 11:35

I’m exactly the same, absolutely full of a cold did a PCR test and lateral flow tests and all negative! It’s so frustrating because you can’t take usual cold remedies that would move it on because of the pregnancy! Hope you feel better soon xx

MrsGxx · 31/08/2021 15:32

Thanks everyone. I have taken both tests and both negative. I’m on day 5 and it’s just not letting up at all.
I have no taste or smell, I’m sooo blocked up it’s unreal, no headache, no temp.

@Hopefulbride18 have you had your results yet?
@Nic2020 honestly, I’ve just had some paracetamol I’m sure that’s all we can have.
I did put some olbas oil in a bowl of hot water and let it vapor the room, I can’t smell it but my husband and son can in every other room in the house.
@Katiekattty @gwilt how do you both feel now? Did your symptoms get worse after you’d tested positive or do you feel like it’s just a bad cold?
@iverunoutofinspiration honestly, you have mine too. I feel like an absolute sack of crap! I have the same symptoms as you Flowers Flowers Flowers hope it eases for us all soon. X

@MrsGxx mine got a lot worse. It was awful, my DH tested positive a day later. I got a positive test on Thursday and by Saturday I was in bed just feeling like death. I lost all the weight I gained in first trimester and haven’t put it back on, coughing and really short of breath and a fever. I struggled to go upstairs about two weeks after I started feeling better. It’s been about 8 weeks and I’m just now starting to feel more like myself. Fingers x you get a negative test.

Allthehabum · 31/08/2021 16:08

In other countries, the governments say it is pointless taking a Covid test until at the very least 5 days after exposure as otherwise it will just show negative, even if you are positive.

Keladrythesaviour · 31/08/2021 16:10

We've had an awful head cold followed by a bronchial cough. Multiple negative PCRs from us (me and DH) and our two friends who have the same. So absolutely sure it's not covid as we've tested at different points along the way. Three weeks on and the head cold has gone but still a horrible cough (the worst symptom to have these days Blush) feels like it's turned into bronchitis so will go to drs next week (and no doubt take another PCR) if it hasn't improved.

Hunkydory99 · 31/08/2021 16:27

OP I bought a humidifier which I found amazing. Really helped me sleep. I filled it with water and olbas oil and other than making my house reek it offered relief in light of not being able to take anything else other than paracetamol.

gwilt · 31/08/2021 17:18

@MrsGxx It did get worse, sadly. I was knocked out and basically in bed for 7 days. I wasn't well enough to be out and about after my 10 days isolation - more like 12.

3 weeks after the positive I feel OK now. Sense of taste and smell a bit "off" and still cough a bit, but much better Smile

MrsGxx · 31/08/2021 17:38

I have just tested positive and I’m so scared x

OP posts:
Bellyrumble · 31/08/2021 17:45

Oh @MrsGxx I’m sorry you have tested positive

Have you told your MW so they can tell you what to look out for?

Not sure if you are vaxxed and that’s a very personal decision (I’m not so no judgment) but try not to worry and keep a close eye on yourself, temp, movements and fluids.

Flowers and Cake I hope you recover quickly x

Katiekattty · 31/08/2021 18:16

@MrsGxx so sorry you’re positive. Keep an eye on your temp, grab some paracetamol and keep your fluids. Coconut water or just plain water with tiny bit of salt helped me a lot. I hope you feel better soon.

Trinacham · 31/08/2021 18:53

Don't be scared. I know it's easier said than done. I have just recovered from covid at 18 weeks. The majority of people will be absolutely fine. I didn't get a temperature at all, only very mild cold-like symptoms. Had it not been for isolating, I would have gone into work as usual, as I felt fine. I am not vaxxed at all, so just goes to show, it doesn't mean you'll get it worse! As others have said, drink lots of fluid and give yourself lots of rest, as it helps the immune system to do its thing

Trinacham · 31/08/2021 18:58

It's also supposedly a good thing if you lose your sense of taste/smell. People who are seriously ill with covid are not reporting those symptoms, whereas those who are mild, are. Something to do with your immune system creating the antibodies

MrsGxx · 31/08/2021 20:17

Thankyou so much for all of your replies I am actually in hospital because my midwife wasn’t happy as I’m tachycardia. Resting 130 standing 150 she’s sent me in it’s awful in here and it’s the last place I want to be x
I’m just waiting at the moment I don’t actually feel too poorly just a stuffy nose, slight cough and I’ve lost my taste and smell no temperature or headache.
I will keep you all updated. Trying to drink as much as possible x

OP posts:
MrsGxx · 31/08/2021 20:18

Also I have had symptoms for 5 days so does that
Mean I’ve had it for 5 days but only just tested positive on a lateral flow x

OP posts:
Trinacham · 01/09/2021 10:07

My symptoms started on 20th August but was testing negative. Didn't re-test until the Monday, when it was positive. The NHS said to count from the Friday, even though it was negative that day, so yes I'd say you've had symptoms for 5 days (although you would have contracted covid days earlier, I think) so would isolate for another 5.

MrsGxx · 01/09/2021 10:44

@Trinacham Thankyou for the reply, I’m home now and not feeling too bad. Just had a call from the hospital maternity doctor and she said the peak would be around now so fingers crossed things don’t get any worse x
