Rib Pain

I was just wondering if anyone gets rib pain? I’m 31 weeks and when baby is in my ribs (particularly on one side) it’s so uncomfortable and can be really painful. Particularly sitting on the sofa or in the car! I spoke to the midwife but she wasn’t very helpful with things I can do to help as I don’t think there’s much that can be done!! Xx

Yes I had this from 30 weeks until 36 weeks, then baby starts to descend and relieves the pressure. I sympathise with you as had an hour commute every day and am in a chair based job!!

I'm afraid nothing made it better other than regularly getting up from sitting and moving around. And over time it became easier to deal with as the cartilage on your ribs does stretch to accommodate it.

Hi all,
I’m 31 weeks pregnant and experiencing the most horrendous rib pain. It there nearly all the time (worse on my right side) but becomes extremely intense after walking more than 200-300 meters - to the point when I have to stop and can’t move for a while. Its also made worse by sitting in certain positions and chairs. Has anyone experienced anything similar? And if so were you told what the problem was? My hospital are being completely useless so I can’t rely on them to help me figure out what it is or what to do next. Thanks so much x

Rib pain on the right hand side is a sign of pre-enclampsia so you should probably talk to your midwife just to be sure x

Yes I've had it. For quite a few weeks I had to sleep sitting bolt upright in bed. There are some good stretching exercises online which I found helpful. Just Google 'ribpain during pregnancy exercises' - that should bring them up (I hope)

@Raquella it's the growing uterus. It's very common apparently. Stretching exercises helped me
