Miscarriage?

I'm looking for some advice or anyone who has been in the same situation, positive or negative.

I should be 7 weeks pregnant today. On Wednesday I called the early pregnancy unit as I had brown discharge when wiping. I was told to take another test (was a very clear positive with seconds) and not worry unless I was feeling severe pain or flooding a pad with fresh blood with 30 mins. Since Wednesday I've had small amounts of brown discharge when wiping and a slight brown stain on my underwear. I'm still feeling nauseous (had bad morning sickness with my last pregnancy) and today my boobs are sore.

I ended up booking a private scan for today as the not knowing whether everything was ok was really getting to me. At the scan they could see a sac but is was slightly misshapen and is only measuring 5+3 and no heartbeat though if the measurements of the scan are correct they wouldn't expect to see one.

I've to call the early pregnancy unit on Monday to see how to proceed. I'm utterly gutted and just feel so muddled. One one hand I think I knew this news was coming, on the other I think I'm being a bit delusional and hoping that maybe there's still a bit of a chance.

Has anyone been in a similar situation? What was the outcome?

I'm sorry you're having this stress. I've had brown discharge for a few weeks now, and as a result went for a scan in EPU at 7 weeks. They saw a heartbeat but only measured me as 5-ish weeks. I had a scan a week and a half later privately, and this time measured 7+5 with a heartbeat, even though according to dates I should be nearer to 9 weeks. At such an early stage they might not see a heartbeat yet, you only expect to see it from 6 or so weeks really (which I think I actually must have been for the first scan). Good idea to get a follow up scan, a scan is the only way to tell. It could go either way for you, but hopefully you will get a scan witha heartbeat soon. Remember that there are many reasons for blood/brown discharge, many of them harmless.

Thank you. I guess I just need to wait and see with the unit say on Monday. I imagine if I still haven't bled I'll have a scan at some point. Then it'll either have grown or not and I'll know. The waiting and feeling of limbo is just hellish though

Was it an abdominal or transvaginal scan?

Onebabyandamadcat · 28/08/2021 15:26

I had both the abdominal showed the sac so they offered a vaginal to get a better look

Just giving this a hopeful bump. Still no bleeding or anything

Hi @Onebabyandamadcat sorry you find yourself in this situation it's very hard to say, waiting is the only resolution which is crappy, I've been there. I think they're wrong to have asked you to take another PT, either way it would have still shown positive so bit of a pointless exercise.

It wasn't good news for me (I didn't have bleeding just measuring behind) however my best friend had bleeding similar to you. They told her her conception date which was only 2 days before her BFP so timings impossible which put more doubt in her mind for the next week. Turns out a week later baby had caught up growing by over 2 weeks. Really hope it works out for you 💕

Thank you for sharing @bez91. I thought this when they asked me to take it and I'm annoyed that I just accepted this as the way forward, I'm normally quite assertive but didn't question it or push to be looked at.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Deep down I think I've also lost the pregnancy. It's just so horrible waiting and flitting between hope and reality. I think I'm going to try to push to be seen tomorrow

@Onebabyandamadcat don't be annoyed with yourself when in that situation you just trust what people ask of you/tell you. Thankyou, I've had a few so pretty accustomed to the ins and outs of EPU.

Definitely try and push to be seen, I anticipate if your private scan was yesterday they may want to see you towards the end of the week for a little more time to elapse but definitely make sure you're on their radar! Hoping it's good news for you
