Braxton hicks

I'm 26 weeks pregnant with no 2 so all the weird prgnancy stuff isn't new to me but this feels a bit different.

I always have braxton hicks and they have never hurt - my bump goes hard and tight and then the feeling goes away. This is also what happened with no 1 they never hurt or felt crampy until I actually went into labour at 40+4

Last night around 10ish I started having what felt like period cramps - not super bad but bad enough to stop me getting to sleep plus a weird pressure in my hip like the babies head was grinding into my right hip.

The cramps came and went in a vague pattern and my upper legs /lower back were also aching. Eventually it all stopped but I was starting to think about taking myself to the hospital just to be checked out - I probably will if it happens again.

Do other people have crampy braxton hicks? Should I be a bit more concerned here? I've got no other signs of early labour or anything.

I will 100% be asking my midwife about it when I see her next week if it doesn't happen again and if it happens again or gets worse/lasts longer I'll take myself to hospital just to be sure anyway. It was just very weird.

Hi. I have very intense braxton hicks which my midwife said is fine unless I have cramps too, which in that case I should ring my maternity unit. I would phone them and just get some advice, they may ask you to go in and put you on the monitor to see what’s going on

Mine feel quite cramps sometimes, especially at night like you described. I also read somewhere that BH feel worse in your second pregnancy because your muscles and uterus are pre stretched so expand further and therefore contract more.

I had the same last week when I was 26+3 it started off as feeling a bit off on the Tuesday morning then by tea time I was sick then the braxton hicks started then they got really strong n were every 2-3 minutes I decided to have a bath n a sleep n felt a bit better when I woke up but when I woke up o the Wednesday I had what felt like cramp in the bottom of my stomach n bottom of my back. I had a cervical lengthening scan booked in for that morning a year so when I went for that they sent me to the assessment unit to get checked, they kept me on the monitor about 2 hours and everything seemed fine. They could see I was getting regular strong tightenings and told me to go home but to go straight back if they start to get more painful but luckily by the Wednesday night they eased a lot. If you are concerned I would just ring to get checked even if its just to put your mind at rest a bit.

Wise to mention it to your midwife.

I had painful braxton hicks and thought it could be pre-term labour at 33wk, turned out I had a UTI and it was pretty bad by the time I went to the GP. They were only checking for protein in urine at my checkups so it was missed on my 32wk check up. Baby was born at 38+6, I thought labour was just braxton hicks for the 1st 12 hours.

Im glad I'm not the only one this has happened to. And very interesting about the UTI possibility - I've never had one of those so no idea what it could feel like but I have definitely been very run down in the last few weeks. I'll mention to midwife and see what she thinks.

I think if it happens again I will get checked out - I got a little worried when the stomach cramps were radiating into my back and made my upper legs ache which is exactly what happened in labour.

Im putting it down to being knackered for now. Too much commute/work/toddler/house referb before baby arrives/ having a nasty cold going on at the moment. 🙈

If I was you I'd call your midwife and ask for her advice! I'm only 23 weeks and had similar crampings to you yesterday so was told to ring triage.. they'll check you over for any infections! May just be an intense case of braxton hicks but better to be safe x
