Iron supplements required? Weight gain?

At my last appt, my iron levels were on the low side of normal range and doctor said I should start taking 65mg or more of iron daily to prevent my iron from getting lower and prevent anemia. I took 65mg of iron this month and I gained 12 pounds in one month. My diet has stayed the same, and while not perfect, it isn’t terrible and I walk 5 days/ week for 30 min and stay active during daily activities most day. I was 123 pounds prior to pregnancy and was 118 at my first appt, 120 at 20 weeks, 126 at 24 weeks, and now 138 at 27 weeks, 4 days which happens to be the same month I started iron supplements. My doctor said my current iron level number is 33 and that it is good. So, should I keep taking them? I want to stop because I think it’s the only reasonable explanation/ change in diet for the excessive weight gain this month unless it is just catching up since I didn’t gain anything until 20 weeks. I’m just scared I’m going to gain way too much weight on this path…

It’s nothing to do with the iron tablets.

It’s to do with the fact that you’re pregnant, and growing a baby, a whole new organ, and have loads of e tea blood and fluid swooshing about.

Tablets CAN cause constipation which can make you feel heavier. I took Spatone liquid that I bought from Amazon instead as it doesn’t cause the same gastro issues.

If you need to take the iron you should take it. Anaemia in late pregnancy is no joke I can tell you.

Have you talked to anyone about your fear of weight gain during pregnancy?
