Measuring over average

How accurate are they?
I had a scan last week at 29 weeks and his estimated weight is already 4 pounds 5 Shock
Any advice? Or is it normally really inaccurate and should I ignore it? I should also mention this was a private scan.

When I last saw the midwife she didn't mention I was measuring big but just put in my notes I'm on the 90th centile.

I have no personal experience of growth scans (half expecting to be referred for one this time as I'm blinking enormous!) but lots of my friends have been and very few of them have been accurate. One was told consistenly that her baby was measuring far too small and would be 5lbs at best at birth - he was 7lbs 14oz. Another was induced because her baby was meant to be really big - he came out at 8lbs! So not that huge at all - both mine were well over 8lbs and I was always told I was measuring "perfectly". I wouldn't worry too much in your shoes.

I never had a growth scan that early but at 35 weeks I was flagged as having a big baby.

My consultant arranged an emergency scan for that day so she could go over the scan that day.

35 weeks estimated 7lb 13oz
37 weeks told not growing as well estimated 8lb2oz
38+4 birth weight of 10lb 4oz 🤦‍♀️

I wasn't expecting my baby to be so big! I ended up with a 98th percentile baby.

They can be out by up to 25% on the estimates so try not to worry too much.

Our most recent was estimated at 5lb 4oz @ 31+6, 7lb 12oz @ 35+6, born at 38+6 weighing 10lb 15oz. Had her via CS (a day earlier than planned as went in to labour) due to previous CS with our twins but had a natural unassisted birth with her brother a similar size, 10lb 12oz @ 40+5.

Good luck with the birth
