3 c-sections?

Has anyone had three c-sections? Is it OK to have three? I was told at the birth of my second child that if I wanted a third child then the doctors would strongly recommend a c-section. I wasn't really expecting to want any more children after my second was born but I think I kind of do want another, at least sometimes.

I’ve had 3 c sections and due to have my fourth baby by c section next week!

SunbathingDragon · 24/08/2021 20:21

I’ve had four c sections.

I've also had 4. I was sterilised after my last one but asked about the possibility of having more sections. The surgeon said she had operated on a woman who had 7 and said she would not advise me either way, just that the risks can increase with each one. My third one had complications but my fourth was very straight forward.

Following as I'm exactly the same as you OP. First was had emotionally, second I actually loved. Never thought I would have one child now wondering about a third...

I have one friend who had four sections and thought third was hardest, for her. Just recovery wise and pain wise.

Interesting to see how others have found it.

Moominmiss · 24/08/2021 20:31

@furbabymama87 I’m opting to be sterilised during my fourth section next week too.

I'm having my third in two months, I wanted to try for vba2c but have placenta previa so no hope. Where I am they offer sterilisation with your third cs, but if someone does go on to have any more it's automatically another csection, they have to do it but are just very careful about uterine rupture, placenta issues, etc.

I'm in my 50s now, but have had 3 c/sections. I was told I couldn't have any more as I had a great deal of scarring. I was fine with that as I had 5 children in total, so got sterilised.

My friend has had 4 c/sections and was told she was fine to have another.

I hope you've found the replies useful!

My baby is only 6 months old so this isn't a decision I'm looking to make immediately. I thought I was "one and done" after my first child and waited a while before having another. She's a much easier baby than my first (or I'm a much better mother 😂), and I feel like I could have 7 babies. I'm sure it'll change when the next sleep regression comes around but I think a third is a definite possibility.

I never noticed any more pain from the sterilisation, it was probably just masked by the usual soreness from the c section, so that's a positive to having it done while you're already cut open, rather than key hole x

Moominmiss · 24/08/2021 22:04

Yes, @furbabymama87 that’s what my consultant said. She said it’ll only add 5 minutes or so onto the surgery and is easier to have it done then than at a later date and a separate procedure. Thank you x

muddypuddlejumping · 24/08/2021 22:56

@letsallbemermaids
I'm in the same position. Very tempted with a third although I do worry about a third c-section. It's reassuring to hear that so many women have had 3.

Never thought I'd be considering a third when I had my first though!

User2012 · 24/08/2021 22:59

I’ve had 6 so far

Had 4 and got sterilised. Regretted it so had it reversed and had 2 more !

Sceptre86 · 24/08/2021 23:06

I am trying for a vbac2 but if I don't go into labour naturally will be looking at my 3rd section. I will not be having a 4th child, don't want to push my luck but that is due to my complications as you can see other women feel differently.

Alonelonelylonersbadidea · 25/08/2021 06:27

I've had 5. no issues.

Snorkello · 25/08/2021 06:44

3 with no issues. GP has said I can have another if I want. Congrats OP! You’ll be fine.

Thanks! Congratulations are premature as haven't decided if we wanted a 3rd or not yet (and I definitely don't want to get pregnant when DC2 is only 6 months old) but much appreciated.

Thanks for all the reassuring comments too. I've had two EMCS but the latter was maternal request as I went into labour before a planned section date. The first was due to breech presentation.
