Hi mums! I have really bad heartburn everyday all day and has been taking Gaviscon daily for the last month. I am just curious to know if this is safe?? I have another 2 months until baby is due I'm not sure if I should continue taking Gaviscon daily afraid it might be bad long term

Gaviscon is fine, I used to swig it from the bottle in my last pregnancy! If you’re needing it long term though you might be better off seeing the GP for some omeprazole

God I lived on gaviscon when pregnant. I couldn't have made it through without it! Doc prescribed me 3 massive bottles of it. DS completely fine

Gaviscon is absolutely fine, you can take it for months and months. I had a horrible heartburn (woke up with sick in my mouth so many time), my consultant recommended Losec - oh my god it changed my life! I’ve been taking it now for a week and heartburn is gone! Absolutely safe in pregnancy too!

Swigged from a large bottle every night. Then I was in hospital for three nights before giving birth and they tried to ration me to a tiny pill cup a night. I had to smuggle in my big bottle ...

Like m00rfarm I was in hospital for a few days before DD1 and I made DH bring in my bottle from home. That tiny cup was doing nothing!! I was the same with DD2.

Both girls were born with full heads of hair!

As above, it's safe but would maybe be worth phoning your GP for some Omeprazole, might make more of a difference x

If you need that much gaviscon it might be worth talking to your doctor about a prescription. I'm on omeprazole & it's made a world of difference.
Haven't seen any evidence that gaviscon is harmful in pregnancy if you want to stick with it though.

Yes. I and loads of my friends glugged gaviscon when pregnant. Did you know you should be able to get it for free with your NHS prescription exemption. My doctors pharmacy would give it out without needing an actual prescription.

ZenNudist · 24/08/2021 19:49

I was going to say I think I took omeprazole but it was a long time ago and is something I've taken on and off so can't remember if I took it during pregnancy.

LunaDreams · 24/08/2021 20:09

Ask your GP for omeprazole if you find gaviscon stops being effective for you.

Elisemum · 24/08/2021 21:56

Omeprazole is Losec. It will change your life :).
