Tummy cramps in early pregnancy ...

... I know this has probably been asked before and I know I got them with my first but this is a bit different I think (although memory not as good as it was pre-pregnancy/baby!!!). I'm only 5 wks pg and keep getting them on and off. Sometimes they're quite painful, not as bad as bad period pains but a bit more than a dull ache. There's no tenderness or anything like that, but I know this is weird but I really feel like my uterus is sort of solid ... not to touch, but that's what it feels like in my body. The only thing I can liken it to is the tight feeling you get when a Braxton Hicks is in full flow.

I'm starting to worry about it. I'm seeing the midwife next week so will ask her then but should I call NHS direct or anything? There's no bleeding ... hoping I'm just panicking over nothing.

Anyone else experienced this and can (hopefully, please!!!) put my mind at rest?

Thx xxx

WC,

I'm in my 7th week and had really bad tummy cramps around 4/5 weeks. I think it's normall as it's around the time your period would be due.

Mine seem to have gone now and everything seems fine. If you are really worried though do ask to see your doctor/midwife. It will put your mind at rest.

HTH, take care and good luck.

Wishingchair, as Sweetheart says it's very normal to experience mild period type pains in the first three months or so of pregnancy, around the time your period would have been due. Your body has to adjust to the hormone changes, and it can take a while. If you're still very worried go and see your doctor - don't worry about what they'll think, so long as it reassures you that's all that counts

Hi wishingchair, just echoing the others, I have cramping in early pregnancy, plus some bleeding and have a very health 6 and 2 year old. My mum assured me she had it, think its very common. Hope all goes well for you.

Thanks everyone - sometimes you just need someone else to tell you! If it gets any worse I'll go to the docs.

Thanks again

I had cramps really bad too. I would be doubled up every so often as it would take me completely by surprise. I wouldn't worry about it, but do mention it to your midwife. My doctor told me that it's all the movement going on in my tummy and the fact that all the muscles are changing. Chin up!

I'm reassured to know this is normal. I'm 5.5 weeks into my second pregnancy & have been having period type pains for a couple of days. They're not excrutiating, & no bleeding, but I don't remember them from my 1st pregnancy. I think it's my tummy muscles finally giving up.....

Yes, I had this too. Used it as an excuse for 2 days off work.

Don't tempt me, fisil
