Has anyone else (first baby) not had any leaking or been able too collect any colostrum and been able too Breast feed? I really wanna EBF but terrified as I'm 36+2 and had no leaking what so ever

Don't worry. I couldn't collect anything and had an abundance of milk... not everyone can but it doesn't mean anything.

Is this a new thing? Asking women to express before birth sounds barbaric to me?! I tried expressing colostrum in hospital with my first as we had a traumatic birth and he didn't latch (for a week!) but it was almost impossible even then!

I never leaked before having either of mine and was able to express colostrum before having my second (I changed hospital and they suggested it due to me having GD). You may be fine, it's definitely doesn't mean you can't breastfeed.

Chances are, you will be able to EBF so try to worry. Bit of an aside but the biggest learning curve for me when I had my first that, although we are told that breastfeeding is "natural", it is also an iterative, learned experience by both mum and baby - they suck, you produce on demand. My first didn't latch properly for a week but went on to feed for 2.5 years and my second "fell" onto my boob straight after being born and he was off!!!

Personally, I'm surprised anyone can harvest this pre term!!!

Try *not to worry x

I've always been told too do it from 36weeks due too being a diabetic and baby may need a feed ASAP too prevent low glucose. I'm due too be induced 37+1 due too other complications

Have you had a look at techniques on youtube to make sure your doing it properly? If so, dont worry too much because once baby is here your milk will arrive.
Remember lots of skin to skin time will help initiate the breastfeeding.
I am currently 34 weeks but will start to express in a few weeks to build up a supply for hospital. With DD2 we had to stay in for 5 nights on antibiotics and the first night she wanted to suck from 11pm-5am it was exhausting. The next day when DH came in he fed her my syringes which gave me a few hours sleep. Life saver. I would say if you really want to avoid formula it can be invaluable if your baby is very hungry.

I’m pregnant with my second and I don’t leak. I can express and I have built up my supply from 36 weeks (I’m now 40 weeks) by expressing every day.

Check out @dropsofgolduk on Instagram as it has great tips on how to start xx

so glad u asked this @Natasha2021! exact same worry! watched some videos from NHS trusts and tried it, and absolutely nothing!

SillyBry · 22/08/2021 20:01

They never mentioned harvesting colostrum when I was pregnant 5 years ago. I didn’t leak once and had a massive supply of milk when my daughter was born.
I’m now 38 weeks with number 2 and no leakage 🤷🏻‍♀️
