Confused after early 9 week scan

We went for a scan at 9 weeks today just for reassurance that all was ok so we could tell family. We’d already had scan at 7 weeks where all looked good. Saw heartbeat and baby measuring the right size today, however the sonographer as concerned about some dark patches on the baby. They said they’d refer me to the hospital to get checked out but didn’t explain what’s wrong other than writing on the report that there was ‘mild fetal body edema with bilateral pleural effusion’. I asked what this meant but was just told a lot of medical terms which went over my head and have been left really confused and not knowing if my baby is ok or not

Has anyone been through anything similar and want to share the outcome? Google has scared the life out of me and to me the outcome doesn’t seem good 😞

I can't help you too much, but only that when they send a referral to the hospital you will get seen very quickly. I've had 2 referrals, and I was booked in for emergency ultrasounds within 24 hours, so hopefully yours will be quick too.

I hope everything goes well, please keep us updated x

Thanks @dg93 I hope the ring me early and can get me in tomorrow. They had referred to the EPU today but I rang and they said they don’t deal with that sort of thing so I have to see a doctor. Hope the wait isn’t too long

Just an update that I spoke with the EPU today and the fetal medicine department and they’ve told me that I have to wait until my 12 week scan as they won’t be able to tell anything at 9 weeks as it’s too early 😩 going to be a long 2 and a half weeks. Part of me thinks if that’s the case then how did the sonographer see what he saw but obv he wouldn’t have referred for no reason

How did you get on Bellesjp?

Yeah any update? :( I hope all was well

Sorry I have not updated, it’s been a tough few weeks. I went for my 12 week scan last weds and unfortunately was not good news. The baby had multiple serious abnormalities with heart and brain, and a 9mm nt measurement and would have not have survived 😢 had to make the hardest ‘decision’ to have a termination for medical reasons on Friday, they think he was a little boy 💙 heartbroken x
