Hi Ladies
This is my very first post. Just looking for anybody who has been through a similar experience. Advice. Positive words of wisdom.
I’m 32 years old. Pregnant with 4 child (finally a little girl) on my 12weeks scan they was unable to take fluid measurements from scan as it was not clear enough. I’m now 17weeks. Had a quad blood test instead. I received a phone call saying 1 in 5 chance of Down syndrome. Went in 2dys ago for a nipt blood test with 99.6% rate! Results in 7/10days. Praying for good news but finding it hard to stay positive.

I don't really have any advice or similar experiences for you just didn't want to read and run! So positive words of wisdom it is. 1 in 5 is an 80% chance that your baby WILL NOT have Down Syndrome.

I have been booked in for the quad test for a similar reason, and I have been advised that for every 50 women who get told they have a high likelihood of Downs syndrome on the quad test only 2 of those women will actually be carrying a baby who has Downs syndrome. Basically the test isn't very accurate. The NIPT will give you far more accurate results.

Thankyou! Exactly how I’m trying to hood at it xx

Yes I have been told the quad is 73% accurate but my anxiety is through the roof knowing the NIPT is 99.6% just praying for the best news thanks for your replies x

So much love to you right now, I've been where you are and remember the awful wait for news. I know that right now you probably don't want to dwell on the whatifs but once you get your result if it's positive there are so many great resources to prepare yourself (mentally really) for having a child with a little extra - I highly recommend the Downs Syndrome Association and the groups Positive about Down's Syndrome and Wouldn't Change a Thing.

I hope the next week or so passes fast and you get peace with your result. I have a 5 year old with Down's Syndrome and when I got my NIPT result I cried and cried, I thought my heart would break! She is literally the heart of our family, adored by everyone, so strong willed and opinionated, so fierce and kind and crazy. Whatever happens you will get though this - happy to talk by PM anytime.

You might be able to search more posts on the Antenatal Tests section, it's under 'Becoming a Parent'.

At this point you can only wait, I've found with many situations you have your hypothetical 'what would I do' thoughts and then your actual response if it does happen.
Assuming you have a partner hopefully you can support each other as you wait and come to the right decision for your family if it comes to that.

Thank you so much for updating! I’m in the exact same situation, 1 in 5 chance on the quad today and NIPT booked for tomorrow morning. Can’t help but worry and trawl the internet right now! It’s reassuring to hear your outcome with the same ratio we’ve been given xx

Lion89 · 01/02/2022 09:14

My Baby girl was born 6 days ago! She beautiful and healthy with no issues. Wish u all the best xx

I am also having 1 in 5 chance as a quad result, but my NIPT is low risk. I am more worried about the low level of uncoagulated Oestriol shown in quad report. What was your uncoagulated Oestriol levels?

Thankyou so much for returning to this thread Lion89 and updating us on your happy, healthy girl. I’ve just had the call that I’m 1 in 5 and just haven’t stopped crying since. I’m having an NIPT tomorrow and not sure how I’m going to cope with the wait. I have a healthy happy 3 year old daughter who experienced no complications and this news has just really thrown me off.

Your thread has really calmed me down and I’ll be referring to it regularly during my wait.

xxx

TiredIsAnUnderstatement · 12/07/2022 14:18

@kirstywursty012 i was in this situation with the same odds from the quad earlier this year, my NIPT came back negative and my little girl was born healthy on Sunday just gone ☺️
i know when I was going through posts at the time the more positives outcomes I read helped me feel less anxious so wanted to add another to the thread x

kirstywursty012 · 12/07/2022 15:20

Thankyou @TiredIsAnUnderstatement - that’s so kind x

Congratulations on your baby girl!
