Depends where you live. Some places don't offer a 12 week scan.

As for the bump - could be any time from about 14 weeks or so. Some women don't show til a lot later though. I remember feeling huge at 20 weeks and saw a woman I knew at the hospital who was also 20 weeks with no visible tummy at all!

I would phone your GP and make sure the relevant paperwork has been passed on - this could be why you haven't heard anything yet...

Had to go private for 12 week scan, they kept fobbing us off that we would have one, but turns out (va sources) Hillingdon are skint and only offered 20 week scans. So much for paying my taxes for 16 years! Transferred to Northwick Park and got 12 week scan at 18 weeks (better than nowt), Don't necessarily believe what they tell you.

i got a dating scan at 12 weeks, i didnt show both times till i was about 5 months

crokky · 02/12/2007 10:43

In my area, they don't do the 12 week nuchal scan, but they do give most pg women a dating scan somewhere between 10-14 weeks.

In my dating scan, they just literally measured the length of the baby and that was that.

In my previous pg, when I had a nuchal scan (in a different area where the NHS was richer!), they took loads of measurements and it was a much more detailed scan.

I would phone the maternity unit at your local hospital and ask them whether they do any kind of 12 week scan at all. If they do, ask them the quickest way to get a referral. Also, with the nuchal scan, once you get past a certain date (think it is 14 wks or slightly less), they can't do all the measurements as the baby has grown too big/old by then. (Think it is the neck fold they can't do after a certain date).

In my area (plymouth) we had to call for our 12 weeks scan and make the appointment ourselves.

I would phone your local dept or Gp and check just as crokky suggested! Have to admit it was very difficult to get hold of derriford maternity unit!

Ask your GP, it might have been your responsibility to call. With my first pregnnacy I didn't start to show until week 16

I`ll be nearly 14 weeks when i get my scan. Im 11 weeks now and Im a bit peeved at having to wait so long but thats the way it is in my area.

I got a letter sent out so maybe you will receive your letter in the next week or so.

spugs · 02/12/2007 14:54

in my area they scan you between 11 & 13 weeks, i was seen at 14 weeks though as they were very busy. if you havent heard in a week or so then give them a ring. im assuming youve seen your midwife for your booking in as in my area they wont scan you till this has been done.

as for a bump with my first it took ages to get a proper bump 25 ish weeks, i could tell earlier but other people couldnt. i have friends who have begun to show earlier so i think it depends on your build. im tall and thin so baby has plenty of space to hide that plus good stomach muscles ment no bump

klzmar88 · 04/12/2007 11:56

It was just because in my midwife folder, she wrote down 12 week scan. I phoned the scan department and they said that because i had to have a scan at bout 5 weeks, they dont need to give me another scan. I just have my 20 week scan at the end of jan....well scared!
I just wanted to see my little'n :-(
