Did you Go to A&E with ectopic symptoms

Hi ladies, I am 5+6 and have been having lower right sided abdominal pains since four weeks. I woke up today with a pinching sensation in my lower right side and have a feeling it might be ectopic. I have tried to contact my GP but have been unable to get through. I am unsure what to do. Should I go to A&E?

If you have had an ectopic before, what did you do? If you went to A&E did they scan you there and then?

I’m not bleeding but I’m aware not all ectopics bleed.

Any advice would be appreciated

Ring the early pregnancy assessment unit. They’ll ask you about symptoms and decide if they need to get you in to be seen. If they do, they’ll give you an appointment. If not, they’ll tell you when to call back for further assessment. One sided pain doesn’t automatically mean ectopic, I also had pain on my right side and had a shooting pain on my right side which took my breath away, pregnancy wasn’t ectopic.

EPU should be your first contact. A&E would only send you there anyway.

TwinkleTwinkle11 · 17/08/2021 11:52

EPU op!
I had a pain also right side and wasn't ectopic.
Even though baby is teeny tiny your body is already starting to grow.
Ring them to triage and they may ask to see you to check things out.

Boredinthehouse12 · 17/08/2021 11:57

Thanks ladies. I have been trying to call my EPU all morning but the phone just keeps ringing. Nobody is picking up!

I’m sitting here in tears and don’t know what to do.

If your in so much pain and upset go a and e why they won't answer ! X

Gladioli23 · 17/08/2021 11:59

If both GP and EPU aren't picking up, is it worth trying 111? In our area they can refer directly into both OOO appointments with doctors and also into booked a and e appointments for something that needs e.g. an x-ray or scan but then avoids you sitting in a and e for 3 - 6 hours.

passionfruitpizza · 17/08/2021 11:59

I did eventually. I went to EPAU and had a scan then had a blood test and then when they got the blood test results that night the consultant called me and told me to go in to A&E.

kirinm · 17/08/2021 12:02

No I've never been to A&E. Always to the EPU. They would probably scan you at this stage but do you know if you need a referral for you local EPU? Not all will see you directly.

PinkDaffodil2 · 17/08/2021 12:03

EPU, if they don’t pick up go to A&E or try 111. I went to see out of hours GP when I had one who said it was a miscarriage and booked me in for a scan 48 hours later which showed a ruptured ectopic and a pint of blood in my abdomen.
Ectopic are rare but not that rare so please make sure you get seen today, even if that means A&E. A ruptured ectopic is an emergency so if you have any severe pain / lightheaded ness / tender tummy then go there if other services can’t see you.

Harlequin1088 · 17/08/2021 12:04

I had an ectopic pregnancy back in April. I had pain first (feels like the world's worst period pain), saw my GP and he booked me in for a scan at the Early Pregnancy Assessment Unit for the following morning. However, overnight I started to bleed and the pain ramped up so I ended up in an ambulance. Long story short, my Fallopian tube had ruptured and I ended up in surgery. I lost my baby and they had to remove my Fallopian tube. Frankly, if I hadn't sought medical attention when I did, I'd have simply bled to death.

I'm so sorry you're going through this OP but if you even slightly suspect an ectopic pregnancy you need immediate medical attention. Call your GP, tell them it's urgent. Also keep trying EPAS. If you have even a spot of blood, dial 999 for an ambulance. Sadly from experience, I can tell you that shit gets serious very fast.

On the plus side, I'm currently 5 weeks pregnant so there is hope on the other side of this.

Please keep us updated xxx

Mine started with intense pain, I was spotting rather than full on bleeding and not enough to wear a pad. I didn't know I was pregnant as my periods hadn't returned after having a baby.

I just felt crappy, like I was coming down with the flu or something. A week later I had more pain and then started bleeding. My ex drove me to A&E. because I didn't arrive by ambulance I had to wait three days to have the operation as I wasn't seen as an emergency. The people coming in in ambulances were given priority. They told me the operation would be an hour and a half, but it was so bad that I was in theatre for six hours.

tintodeverano2 · 17/08/2021 12:20

Posted too soon. No A&E didn't scan me, I had to wait until the next day and be in the waiting room with all the happy expected mums, while I was crying my eyes out and had blood running down my legs.

Go to the EPU.

Boredinthehouse12 · 17/08/2021 12:47

Thank you ladies. I feel so alone right now. My husband has taken his mum out for the day and I don’t want to worry them until I have a conclusion.

My EPU only take referrals so I ended up calling 111 who have arranged a call with a. They said I need to make sure I have scan today. I’m just waiting to hear back from the EPU.

Have they been in touch yet op?

Boredinthehouse12 · 17/08/2021 14:27

The day who called back really scared me. She said I must go to A&E straight away as ectopics can be deadly. I’m on my way there now. The pain has reduced quite a bit and is now just a occasional pin prick.

I’m not sire what to expect. I suppose I’ll be waiting for hours

I was told they'd send an ambulance when I thought I was having an ectopic around 5 weeks. I decided to drive myself, and I was rushed in. They tested me for lots of things to make sure my organs were all ok, and that I didn't have any weird enzymes in my stomach... they then send a referral to the early pregnancy unit and I saw them the next day.

They couldn't see anything on my scan, but my hcg levels were over 3000 so I was told it was 100% ectopic and be prepared for the worst.

I returned at 7 weeks, with bags packed ready for surgery, and everything ended up absolutely fine. I'm 13+2 now.

Fingers crossed for you. I was in so much one sided pain that we were all convinced it was ectopic x

blueberrywaffle · 17/08/2021 14:53

I hope your okay op and it's just your body changing! Keep us updated ❤️

Miracle29 · 17/08/2021 14:54

OP go to a&e asap I dont mean to scare you but I had a ruptured ectopic which started as side pain then full on constant pain. I was admitted and needed a emergancy operation to remove my tubes I nearly lost my life if I left it a second longer. They are the worse pain ever and as I said I really dont mean to scare you and I'm so sorry if I have but I wouldnt want anyone to go through that. Good luck OP and virtual hugs

LividLaVidaLoca · 17/08/2021 14:57

I had no pain with mine, only vomiting and fainting when it ruptured.

Hope you get good news, OP.

YukoandHiro · 17/08/2021 14:57

EPU not A&E

Boredinthehouse12 · 17/08/2021 16:46

I’ve seen the doc. He concluded suspected ectopic and that he’ll try and squeeze me in for a scan today. Currently waiting back at a&e.

Thank you for the support ladies. It really means a lot xx
