Symptoms of twin pregnancies?

So, I have a history of none identical twins on my mother’s side, and I have a one year old son already. I found out I was pregnant the day after his first birthday, when I was 10dpo (approx, I didn’t track ovulation this month, I’m guessing based on my usual cycle length) and I’m exactly 4 weeks today.

I already feel extremely sick, tired and emotional. I wretch when I have to feed my son because the mere smell of his food knocks me sick. Ive had insomnia the last three nights where it’s taken me hours to sleep despite being absolutely exhausted. Ive been napping when my son naps, just so I don’t fall asleep when he’s awake. With my son I didn’t get symptoms other than sore boobs until 6-8 weeks, so it’s thrown me through a loop to feel so unwell so early on. I’m hungry all the time, already have acid reflux, morning sickness, and even my mother in law asked if I was pregnant because I’m so bloated it looks like I genuinely have a bump.

Just wondering what others experiences were with twin pregnancies, especially early symptoms

Had a twin pregnancy (though lost twin 2 at 10 weeks) didn't feel anything extreme. neseau, no sickness and tiredness. but its my first pregnancy so nothing to compare to.

every pregnancy is different and you're more likely to get an early bump second time as your muscles are already loose

Bells3032 · 16/08/2021 10:14

Oh i didn't get any symptoms at all (didn't even know i was pregnant) til i was nearly 7 weeks

andadietcoke · 16/08/2021 10:20

For me, early bleeding. EPU said it's normal because everything is stretching more. Conceived on the 19th (was tracking), on the 25th I felt sick drinking alcohol (Xmas day!), sore nipples from about the 27th. Tested +ve on the 30th. The bleeding started at about 6w after a gentle walk. Morning sickness didn't start until about 7/8w.

I was no different to my first single baby very sick but was with the first one

JessicaPeach · 16/08/2021 13:12

I felt absolutely rancid, completely different from my singleton. So tired and sick. I went for a private scan at 8w and found out I was having twins.

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 16/08/2021 13:22

I feel exactly as you do, OP and I'm 13wks. No symptoms with first pregnancy except later on I got indigestion. This time around I feel like absolute shit.
Just had my scan and there's only one baby - I had wondered about twins due to the extreme tiredness, constantly feeling sick, huge bump etc.
I can't believe how differently it's affected me second time around.

Maybe you're carrying a girl this time?
Anecdotal evidence suggests more nausea, sickness and fatigue with girls.

Houserenoqueen · 16/08/2021 13:30

I had bleeding too, apparently it’s common in twin pregnancies. Otherwise my symptoms were the same as singleton pregnancy.

jolota · 16/08/2021 16:22

I have exactly the same kind of symptoms from 5 weeks onwards (now 12 weeks and no sign of them improving) & my husbands family has a history of non identical twins so I am concerned it could be twins. Got to wait another week & a half for my scan though.
Though most people I've mentioned it to seem convinced I'm having a girl due to anecdotal evidence that girls give worse symptoms. (Though my mum had 2 girls and zero symptoms, literally none, didn't even realise she was pregnant with me until month 4!)
I think there's no real way to know until the scan, seems so different for everyone.

twinningatlife · 16/08/2021 17:49

I had twins and had zero symptoms- literally nothing

I was in maternity wear with an obvious bump by 9 weeks though

My first was a girl and had zero symptoms with her as well

Bleeding at 5 weeks. Super tired. Being sick. Got a super early positive test too. 6DPO. I knew it was twins. Confirmed twins at 10 weeks but before that my back was super sore, had to get a maternity pillow and tiredness and sickness feeling was extreme.

Runkle · 16/08/2021 20:46

Mine was - I felt what I assume was implantation, extreme thirst (waking in the night to drink), extreme tiredness and big boots.

Runkle · 16/08/2021 20:46

*boobs even FFS Grin

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 16/08/2021 20:52

With DD1 I was sick, sore, bleeding, you name it.

With DTwins I was quite literally running 10ks several times a week 🤣 total shock when I found it was twins.

Tbh I think you just can't tell. Sometimes you'll have more hormone production or be more sensitive to it - not necessarily related to having a multiple birth. Imo.

Todayissunny · 16/08/2021 20:55

I don't really remember feeling any different with my second pregnancy than my first, maybe I did, but i was convinced I was having twins. Googled twin pregnancy signs obsessively and even told my sister I thought I was having twins. Told the person doing the first scan at 10 weeks I thought it was twins. Here we are with our 2 x 14 y.os Smile.
And over the years I've seen this happen loads of times on MN... if you think it might be twins there is a good chance they are.
Good luck

Od130990 · 17/08/2021 01:23

I had no symptoms with my twins but then again I didn't have any other pregnancy to compare it with. I didn't even know I was having twins till I was 21 weeks & didn't start showing until about 6/7 months.
However with my son I knew the minute I tried to have a glass of wine & instantly started vomiting 😂
