18 weeks pregnant - brown discharge

I'm 18 weeks pregnant & woke up this morning with brown stained discharge In my underwear - looked kind of like the last day of period staining, like old blood

I was so worried, rang the hospital & I have had a scan the afternoon - everything looked normal with the baby, heart beat etc which was so reassuring. but they couldn't find any reason why this was happening. I felt better but then this evening have had more of this discharge/dried blood & just so worried. has anyone experienced something similar?

thanks!

I had brown mucus discharge at 11/12 weeks. Lasted a day. No reasons found

Some people bleed, red or old brown mucus/blood all through pregnancy with no medical reason. You’ve done the right thing getting checked out.

I'm 16 weeks today and had a mix of fresh and brown blood this week, the scan has shown baby is happy in there and there's no real reason for it! Just try and relax Flowers

I had bleeding on and off at 17 weeks. 3 different times. It's so scary I feel for you. They couldn't find a reason for it, and baby is still happy and healthy now at 28 weeks. I did get put on progesterone for a few weeks because of the bleeding, and haven't had any more since.

I have also had this. No cause was found and baby was perfectly fine. I had some random bright red bleeds with other pregnancies and no reason found for them, either!

I was a bit further on than you when I had the latest brown bleed and it is so scary despite knowing it is old blood. You did the right thing by contacting the hospital and having baby checked as at least you wouldn't be worrying quite as much.

Sometimes hormones can cause it or dtd also. Yet another joy of pregnancy but a very upsetting one indeed. Please try not to worry but if you're concerned again then don't feel like you shouldn't get checked to be on safe side as it's always worth having second opinion even for your own sake

I had fresh blood around 16 weeks. It was worrying for me but did t progress to anything more. Currently 24 weeks and all fine. These things can happen with no explanation x sure you will be fine x

Yes I had this at 15 weeks. Checked over at the hospital and all was fine. After being examined by the doctor they said the cause was eptropic cells in the cervix. Apparently very common and it can be caused by the hormones in pregnancy. If all is fine with your scan I wouldn't worry. The EPU said brown spotting is common!

thank you everyone - to update, I went to the hospital & they were able to source the bleeding - either a polyp or wound so unexplained but baby looked fine. I'm still very anxious but hoping all will be okay

I had similar at 16w but no cause ever found, weirdly. I'm 29 weeks now and (touch wood) no issues since Smile hope that makes you feel a bit better! X
