Best crib?

When I had DS 4 years ago I had a chicco next to me crib. I still have it, but thinking of selling and getting a new one 😊 What does everyone recommend now?
I've seen good things about SnuzPod?
Anything changed or updated or have more features since the Chicco style next to me cribs?
Thanks 😊

This thread is a little old now so some of the suggestions may be out of date, but if you’ve landed here looking for a crib or bedside co-sleeper, we’ve recently updated our best cribs page with lots of great options, as tried and tested by Mumsnet users and their babies. We hope you find it useful. Flowers

If you want the latest bits and features, friends now have this thing called a Rockit that jiggles the pram for you while baby sleeps, they didn’t exist when I had DC1 four years ago. Oxygen monitors have got popular too. But no one seems to have different cribs.

Snuzpod. Chicco feels cheap in comparison

OP we have just bought a Snuzpod and are assembling it this weekend (well, DH says he is) I’ll get back to you when it’s up and tell you what I think! (I naively thought it came ready assembled 🤦🏻‍♀️)

I had a snuzpod in my first pregnancy and will use it again in my second. It was nice but the features are more that it looks prettier than the Chicco. It is supposedly easy to pick up the top to move around the house but it’s very heavy so I never did. It rocks, but so slowly and with difficulty that a Moses basket on a rocker would be better. So if you fancy one cos they look nice, do it, you can get them fairly cheap second hand. But if you’re doing it for the features, I wouldn’t bother, personally.

With my other two I had an amby hammock that I loved because they both had colic but would sleep fairly well in it, however there seems to be mixed views on how safe they are now and the advice is for them to lie flat. I was considering the Maxi Cosi Iora, the snuzpod and the halo bassinet for sleeping next to me, but in the end I’ve just bought the 4moms Mamaroo bassinet based on reviews on youtube from desperate parents who struggled with other cribs and colicky babies. It might be that I get lucky and have a baby this time that doesn’t have those issues in which case it is an expensive bassinet that wouldn’t have the interactive features turned on, she’s not here yet so time will tell!

I’ve been doing my research for my second baby due in Nov and I think we’re going to go with the Chicco Next2Me Forever.

It doesn’t rock, unfortunately (I really wanted that) but it facilitates extended cosleeping. I’m very far from a crunchy mum but my 4yo still sleeps with us and it’s been really easy and convenient.

You really want to get one that confirms to the latest British standard, which requires a 12cm lip where the cosleeper connects to the bed with the side down. The new Snuzpod has that, but Snuzpod is only suitable up to about six months.

Of course IKEA cribs are super cheap and well made if you’re not bothered about cosleeping. I’m thinking of getting the little IKEA one that rocks for downstairs/daytime naps.

We had a Pocobaby for down stairs which was great and a neat to me crib which was invaluable!

Christ you would buy a new crib for the second baby? Think of the planet! I'm sure whatever crib you had last time will be fine

Candydreamer · 14/08/2021 09:25

@FartnissEverbeans thanks for posting about the Next2me forever - i didn't know this existed and was leaning towards the snuzpod but for the extra 100 pound this seems like a much better product! Especially as it lasts until 4 years old!

I think you'd be fine with what you've got if it worked for your first baby. Or look into ones that rock if that's what you're after, that's the only thing I think would be worth getting a whole new crib for.

I’m glad someone said this. With everyone going on in the news just now I thought people would be trying to shop more sensibly! If there is nothing wrong with your first crib then I think it would be daft to sell it. It’s used for such a short period of time do you really need fancy features?!
Norestformrz · 15/08/2021 18:09

Not everyone holds onto their baby things. I'd passed most of mine onto friends.

I looked at a Snuzpod but eventually went for a Tutti Bambini Cozee. Think they are all quite similar now!

Moominmiss · 17/08/2021 22:15

We looked at a snuzpod and the next to me, but actually didn’t like either so ended up opting for a tutti bambini cozee.
Liked the size of it and the design. We found a bargain one second hand and just bought a new mattress.

We have a separate Clair de lune Moses basket to use downstairs for daytime naps, again bought second hand just with a brand new mattress.
