Balloon induction stories ?

Hi all

Currently 36 something and being induced on the 25th due to various health reasons

Any balloon induction stories anyone willing to share ? All ive been given is a leaflet explaining it but I like to have all the details as possible
This is actually my sixth baby but I've never been induced all my others were spontaneous

I had balloon induction with my second, it didn’t work for me unfortunately and I had to have my waters popped. Basically it’s used to soften the cervix and dilate it a little bit which can help start labour off, they pop it in then it stays there for 12-24 hours (unless you go into labour in which case it’s normally removed).

I had a balloon induction. It was very uncomfortable going in but not too bad after that. I slept through the night with the balloon in and my waters broke early the next morning. That wasn’t enough to persuade DS out though, and I ended up being given drugs to bring on labour as things weren’t progressing. I can’t comment on that though as I elected to have an epidural first and then fell asleep. DS was born about 30 minutes after I woke up.

• Ordinarily I think they send you home once the balloon is in but as there were potential risks in my case they kept me in.

I had pessaries before having the balloon. I think you need to have certain conditions before they can insert the balloon. Also I used gas and air to have it inserted as it was sore though everyone is different. It did work though and my waters broke hours later. Though like I said it wasn’t my first method of induction.
