How quick were you into maternity clothes? We go on holiday in january when I will be 15-17 weeks. I'd rather not buy summer maternity clothes now as what's available is limited so I'd be buying for the sake of it. I'd rather wait for the new stuff to come out so I am hoping to use my normal summer stuff but try and rely on a bump band. What do you think? I am usually a size 16 and my clothes fit me ok at the moment (10-11 weeks) although my tailored stuff for work does need the top button undone after lunch!

Hi - Get some summer stuff a size or so up, then you can wear them again on the way down(eg after the birth). I went on holiday in June when I was about 14 weeks gone and needed slightly bigger stuff. Don't forget if you are somewhere hot you certainly won't want to be wearing anything too tight.

I went on hols at 14-16 weeks and wore my normal bottons with maternity t-shirts. That way, the undone button could be covered with a belt or long top. Maternity t-shirts are cheap and useful throughout.
Wrap tops are good too.

If it is your first, you might get away with your regular clothes and the bump band at 15-17. I'm only now in maternity clothes, at 20 weeks. My jeans started to get uncomfortable from about 17 weeks but got away with using an elastic/bump band, until I gave up completely last weekend!

Oh, and hold out in your normal clothes while you can- limited maternity range gets tiring v. quickly!

I was still in my normal jeans at 17 weeks but was starting to get a bit uncomfy. Think it's hard to predict, different bumps grow at different rates!

Thanks! It's hard to know what to do because I will be on a ship in the middle of the ocean so no maternity clothes nearby in an emergency! I think I am going to try and go with stuff I have plus a bump band and may be some larger t-shirts.

Tesco do some great longer t-shirts (not maternity ones) that are a fiver each in some lovely colours. They're not particularly summery, but I've been wearing them from 12 weeks to now (35 weeks ).

I'd imagine some smock type summer tops or just longer ones would go down a treat

So far I only have one specifically maternity top, and I stopped wearing that at 30 weeks as it was too small - all the rest have been M&S and Tesco normal clothes!

Admittedly I've been in maternity trousers since 15 weeks

Although I didn't necessarily need maternity clothes size wise till later, I found my tummy felt more sensitive against tighter clothes earlier in pg. I would invest in one or two looser items/dresses. And it's well worth checking out ebay for some lovely bargains.

I found that I could get by with a couple of my husband's t-shirts just to extend my mardrobe without having to spend any extra
