Would you fly unvaccinated and 20 weeks pregnant?

Exactly what the subject says. I’m considering going abroad for a few weeks to visit family, and it’s only a 2 hour flight. My midwife has said it’s fine but everyone keeps scaring me with talks of Covid and the dangers of travel etc. Would you?

Not a chance. I wouldn't take any risk while pregnant. Have you not been offered the vaccine?

MrsSkylerWhite · 11/08/2021 21:37

No.

Ginger1982 · 11/08/2021 21:39

Have you turned down the vaccine?

Sheisfee · 11/08/2021 21:39

Not a chance! I’m double jabbed and I still wouldn’t do it whilst I’m pregnant.

Ilovetoddlerssaidnooneever · 11/08/2021 21:39

No, because I took the vaccine at the earliest opportunity. I wasn't pregnant but I was breastfeeding. I really wouldn't fly pregnant and unvaccinated. Depending on your exact circumstances, you might not be allowed to enter another country if you're not vaccinated. Please be aware that not enough evidence vaccine is safe in pregnancy does not mean evidence it is unsafe. Get jabbed and only then consider flying. FWIW, I flew, double jabbed and was contacted as someone on the plane returned a positive day 2 test. This was before "freedom day" and when the testing requirements were much stricter.

AdriannaP · 11/08/2021 21:39

No way. I am pregnant and fully vaccinated and not flying anywhere.
Did you see recent reports about pregnant women admitted to ICU? None of them had any of the vaccines.

TakeYourFinalPosition · 11/08/2021 21:40

Nope, not a chance.

I’m debating flying while fully vaccinated, but not convinced it’s worth the risk… I wouldn’t on a single vaccine or no vaccine at all.

AnonymousXXIX · 11/08/2021 21:40

Hi! Personally, I wouldn't. I am indeed scared of covid and the dangers of travel. In fact, even fully vaccinated I am very hesitant.. and concerned about the spread of covid globally.

AdriannaP · 11/08/2021 21:41

Also please consider getting a vaccine. Covid especially in third trimester is no joke.

Cuddlemuffin · 11/08/2021 21:42

Definitely not. Cases are still very high...which is still not okay even if you are double jabbed and pregnant. Which your not. I don't think it's worth the risk at all.

Velvetscrunchy · 11/08/2021 21:42

Is it a no because of the risk of Covid or the risk of travelling?

OP posts:
Zarene · 11/08/2021 21:42

No way.

But that's mostly because there is no way I would want to be pregnant without having the vaccine at the moment so we clearly have different ways of assessing risk.

Voice0fReason · 11/08/2021 21:43

Not for a holiday, no. It would have to be an emergency to take that kind of risk.

IDontDrinkTea · 11/08/2021 21:44

I think if you are risking being unvaccinated, you should live your life accordingly as a clinically vulnerable person who has declined something that could prevent them becoming seriously ill. The current recommendation is for pregnant women to get vaccinated

Teflondreams · 11/08/2021 21:45

No way. Why put yourself and baby at risk?

Also the vaccine has been proved as being safe and effective for pregnant women, whereas covid is can be absolutely devastating for them. Why take that risk?

GSD20 · 11/08/2021 21:45

No chance.
I would vaccinated but if I had refused the vaccine I would 100% be shielding as best I could.

Zarene · 11/08/2021 21:45

In answer to your second question, it's undoubtedly the Covid risk. Have you seen the stats for very pregnant women who catch Covid being admitted to ICU, and stillbirths? It's terrifying.

I went on a longhaul holiday at 25 weeks, that was fine.

But I would do everything I my power to keep myself and my baby safe from Covid.

Velvetscrunchy · 11/08/2021 21:45

I posted my last message before I saw all the other replies come in. Ok so an overwhelming “don’t do it”. I was meant to get vaccinated this week but then that would mean I’d have to wait 5 weeks before I could fly and that would put me closer to the 26 week mark.

OP posts:
Sheisfee · 11/08/2021 21:46

It’s a no because of both.

Covid is extremely dangerous for pregnant women and their unborn babies.

Travelling is high risk for catching covid which then goes back into having covid is extremely dangerous for pregnant women and their unborn babies.

ajja2021 · 11/08/2021 21:47

Not at all

8dpwoah · 11/08/2021 21:47

Absolutely not a chance. I wouldn't be going far at all unvaccinated and I wouldn't be flying even if vaccinated. Ask your family to come to you if you want to see them.

8dpwoah · 11/08/2021 21:47

Should be, I wouldn't be flying and I AM vaccinated and pregnant.

AdriannaP · 11/08/2021 21:49

Why do you have to wait 5 weeks before you can fly? Vaccine works after about 2 weeks.
In my first pregnancy I did 3 flights incl 2 long haul ones, last flight at 34 weeks. Traveling per se is not a risk to you and your baby, covid definitely is.

MallardtheKing · 11/08/2021 21:51

No I wouldn't, and it's due to the risk of covid rather than the risk of travel. Travel in pregnancy is generally fine normally, I went on holiday at 25 weeks a couple of years ago, but didn't/wouldn't risk it this year even though I'm double jabbed.

Velvetscrunchy · 11/08/2021 21:53

Vax1 and vax2 need approx 3 weeks between them. Then it’s 14 days before the efficacy fully kicks in.
