Would you fly unvaccinated and 20 weeks pregnant?

Exactly what the subject says. I’m considering going abroad for a few weeks to visit family, and it’s only a 2 hour flight. My midwife has said it’s fine but everyone keeps scaring me with talks of Covid and the dangers of travel etc. Would you?

I really wasn’t expecting everyone to say no. I think it’s because my midwife said it’s fine for me to travel, and she knew I wasn’t vaccinated. I had covid a few months before I became pregnant so I’ve got antibodies. Just don’t know if they’re still there and if they pass on to the baby if you have it pre-pregnancy. I’ll discuss that with my doctor.

I highly doubt your doctor will know.

icedcoffees · 11/08/2021 22:00

Definitely not. Way too much of a risk.

LJZRBB · 11/08/2021 22:02

I have. I did. At 27 weeks (4/5 weeks ago) I’m in the minority obviously.

Really is a personal decision.

Samafe · 11/08/2021 22:03

No

My doctor won’t know the science behind antibodies potentially being passed on to a baby from COVID pre-pregnancy?

No I wouldn’t
I flew in pregnancy at various stages with both but to family in this country
With covid and unvaccinated no way

Can I ask where you went and how you found it?

absolutely not.

get the first vaccine, then if you really need to you could fly @ 24 weeks and get the second vaccine when you get back. But get the first jab asap.

rainbowruthie · 11/08/2021 22:11

No, no and no
Also how are you getting vaccines with only a three week gap?

lannistunut · 11/08/2021 22:12

No from me.

Thh even if vaccinated I wouldn't fly unless essential this year whilst pregnant.

Gembie · 11/08/2021 22:13

Flew to Croatia last July (pre vaccines) when I was 12 weeks pregnant but covid was virtually non existent there then and no variants

ToomuchHeat · 11/08/2021 22:14

No. Not as an unvaccinated pregnant woman. My friend is a midwife and said hospitals are full of poorly pregnant women who are really struggling with covid in pregnancy. This includes HDU and ICU.

Travelling when pregnant or flying isn't an issue your issue is the risk to your's and baby's health being unvaccinated

EmbarrassingMama · 11/08/2021 22:16

Not a snowball’s chance in hell.

ineedaholidaynow · 11/08/2021 22:16

What would happen if you got ill in the country you are flying to?

ToomuchHeat · 11/08/2021 22:17

Your whole immune system is working that much harder in pregnancy - just genuinely knowing that my friend's trust is handing out oximeters to pregnant women because pregnant women are not realising when they have covid that their oxygen levels are dangerously low - it's serious stuff not worth the risk

LJZRBB · 11/08/2021 22:17

Canaries. For 5 nights.

Needed pcr test to go
LFT to get home
Plus my day 2 and 8 tests (I took 2 NHS LFT in my quarantine too). So I had 6 negative tests in the space of 2 weeks? Never felt more confident I didn’t have COVID.

Being abroad was fine. Mask wearing inside like at home. Flight was also fine. We had no one next to us both ways.

This was before “freedom day” so there may be more COVIDidiots around the airports now. 🤷‍♀️

LJZRBB · 11/08/2021 22:17

That’s was for @Velvetscrunchy sorry

Good point, lots of posts on here from ladies wanting to have their second jab before an 8 week gap, quite understandably, and not being able to do it. I think the general guidelines have said the wider dosing schedule is more effective now so that's the protocol being used on the vaccine booking process?

From a practical point? I’m a resident. It’s a European country with good healthcare so from a practical point of view it would be handled the same as here in the NHS. From an emotional point? I’d be heartbroken the same as if I became ill here.

Hmmm I probably would tbh ! I flew last summer when I was pregnant and there wasn’t even a vaccine yet ..

However now that there is a vaccine I’d at least have your first vaccine then go

That's a good point too- travel insurance would be non-existent I suspect? No idea about EHIC these days either.... I'm glad I let my passport expire tbh 😂
freelions · 11/08/2021 22:22

Definitely not

I would prioritise getting vaccinated over a trip abroad. The sooner you are double vaccinated the better. If you get covid in your third trimester there's a high chance of ending up in hospital.

MiddleParking · 11/08/2021 22:22

Weird one because I probably would have if I had been pregnant last year when there were no vaccines (if there had been anywhere to fly to that wasn’t a huge pain in the arse). But now vaccines are available I’d probably just wait until I’d had them both to go abroad, less hassle, pregnant or not pregnant (although I do happen to be pregnant now). I’m double jabbed and planning to fly for a holiday at 33 weeks, return at 35 weeks. No more concerned about catching Covid going on holiday than I am about catching it in my local Tesco, which is not very much at all, especially now I’m fully vaccinated.

Mum2jenny · 11/08/2021 22:23

Not a cat in hells chance would I consider this.
