Hi all, I’m after some advice please. I am 30 and I’m almost 8 weeks pregnant. I have had some complications, pain and bleeding, so was sent for an early scan (would’ve been 6w 1d) and was told they couldn’t detect a heartbeat and they think the fetal pole is 2mm but hard to see as so small. I know my dates are completely accurate so they’ve called me in for another scan in a few days (I’ll be 8w 1d). I’ve had ongoing spotting nearly every day but no clots or any major pain that’s unbearable - mainly cramps. What should I expect at the scan later this week? Do I need to prepare for a possible miscarriage?

Just a bit of background - I have had a healthy child, she’s a teenager now. I had her very young and told no one and had no doctors appointments when pregnant so scans etc are all new to me!

Everyone thinks they're really sure about their dates but it's really easy to be a day or two out at the very least, and that day or two can make all the difference on an early scan!
When I personally have had spotting or bleeding of any kind, I've always prepared myself for the worst. It's still devastating if it is bad news of course, but preparing for that news as best as you can can help a little. Then it'll be a lovely surprise if it turns out to be good news. I've had 2 healthy pregnancies with bleeding, and 2 miscarriages with bleeding. It really can go either way and it's impossible to know unless you're aware if you've passed a sac or anything, which it doesn't sound like you have.
I hope you have a good outcome OP and I'll have my fingers crossed for you, I've got a repeat scan tomorrow and completely understand how nerve wracking the uncertainty can be Flowers

Thank you so much for responding. I hope your repeat scan goes well 💕

It astounds me how different my 2 pregnancies have been. My first was a long time ago but no problems, a textbook pregnancy and perfectly healthy baby. This one is knocking me so bad, I’ve never felt so ill. I’ve fully convinced myself that I am/have miscarried and that the scan on Friday will just confirm it. I’m hoping I was just too early at my last scan and that the problems I’ve been having are just bad luck! Seem to have had every symptom going so far! Trying not to dwell on the negatives but it’s so hard because I also don’t want to get my hopes up. So many people have said there should’ve been a heartbeat and it should’ve measured bigger than 2mm, not sure if they’re just trying to prepare me in case the worst has happened
