Vitamin D

God, I feel terrible.
Have not taken my vitamin D for several months- just completely have forgotten. Have had a lot on, but don’t know how this has slipped my mind.
I’m now almost 37 weeks pregnant and wondering whether I should start taking them now for the final weeks, or whether this may in fact do more harm than good?! Sorry I appreciate you are not my doctor/midwife and I am trying to get hold of both. Just wondered if anyone else had experience of this predicament….

Thanks I’m advance.

Start taking them now - all adults should take them over the winter. The baby will be fine but it maybe that you have become deficient.

Babies are very efficient at extracting they nutrients they need from you so chances are the baby will be fine but as op said you are probably deficient. Are you taking folic acid. If I were you I would start taking a multivitamin designed for pregnancy (I took pregnacare throughout all my pregnancies - fairly expensive but peace of mind). I did still end up with very low iron levels after a couple of my babies were born.

Thanks both. I will start taking them and set myself an alarm (although doubt I’ll forget again- feel so bad!)

Yes take them. They will not do harm and most adults should probably be taking them as standard

Don't feel bad, it happens. The vitamin D is really for you. It'll do no harm, and you should keep taking them regularly after delivery too.

mumofmunchkin · 11/08/2021 18:29

It certainly won't harm, it can only help. I'd start taking them now.

Wbeezer · 11/08/2021 18:36

If you've been put on the sun at all when the weather was good a few weeks ago took have been topped up naturally anyway.

SouthwestSis · 11/08/2021 19:06

At least you have been pregnant in spring and summer when there's lots of vitamin D about anyway!
Would be a good idea to start taking it now though and continue if you want to breastfeed
