Hello ladies!

I am here seeking for your expertise.
I am 6-weeks and having a really bad time being pregnant. I am having lots of GI problems - half of the time I have constipation, and the other half if the other way around. It gives me bad cramps. I also also having nausea during most part of the day - worse in the morning and in the afternoon.
I already cleaned my meals, giving preference for things without sauce and condiments and that doesn't give me gas (sorry for TMI).
I already lost 1kg in a week what is not good because I am already thin.
I will have my ob appointment on next Monday and I am avoiding calling him before that, so I am trying to manage it by myself but it is hard.

What are your tips for dealing GI issues and nausea?

Thanks a million!

I had bad nausea and sickness up until 14 weeks with both pregnancies. With my first I soldiered through like a martyr 😅 this time I asked the dr for help as I couldn't cope with a 1 year old and hubby working night shifts and me working days. I was not in a good way. He gave me some anti sickness tablets and heartburn medication. Made a massive difference, both very safe in pregnancy. I regret not getting help the first time around

I didn't have GI issues but for nausea I took lots of ginger: shots (from Pret), ginger tea and ginger biscuits. I also wore those wristbands for sea sickness which seemed to help. It felt like forever at the time but when it passed I was so thrilled and felt great in the 2nd trimester. Hope it passes soon for you. x

Have a snack and drink ready by the bedside and have them before you actually get up.
I found crunching ice chips helped my early nausea for short periods of time but I developed HG and nothing helped after that. I did find that dairy based drinks made my sickness worse and really quite violent so had to avoid those as much as possible.
Can’t help with the diarrhoea/constipation sorry! Do you suffer IBS in general?

I normally feel sick first thing in the morning - I find ginger biscuits help a lot!

Simethicone, fybogel & omeprazole for GI issues. Check the BNF resources or Bumps but I believe they’re all considered safe in pregnancy.

Nausea… that one is tougher! Ask the OB & tell them about the weight loss. Mine went away in week 9 so you may not have too much time left!
