I don't know where I heard it but it's always stuck in my mind and I wondered if anyone had any first hand experience?!?!?!?!?!?!

IS IT TRUE THAT........

If your waters break or you go into labour in Marks and Spencers or Mothercare that they give you loads of free stuff??????

Does anyone know if other shops do this????

Mine 2nd is due in June and if this is true I'll be spending a lot of time loitering in shops!!!

TIA

myth reckon

enid · 08/11/2004 13:54

No, its not true. I think there is even a disclaimer on their website.

Mahoosivemamma · 08/11/2004 13:54

I know if it happens in Tesco they give you free nappies!! Not sure how many or how long for though!! see you all in Tesci then

Titania · 08/11/2004 14:06

I asked this in mothercare the other week and apparently they do give you something if your waters break there!!!

msann · 08/11/2004 14:08

I can't imagine these store want to encourage the liability of women in labour in their stores.

smellymelly · 08/11/2004 14:30

I thought it was true, they even tell us that in our ante-natal classes!

In fact everyone keeps mentioning M&S to me at the moment.

aloha · 08/11/2004 14:31

Given how long I had to queue in the utterly useless, Easter-European-style, Peckham branch of Mothercare on Sunday, I think you'd have time to have your waters break, go into labour and give birth before you even got served.... Grrrr.

sweetheart · 08/11/2004 14:32

I had a look but couldn't find a disclaimer on their website

Depends on the shop manager - if you make enough fuss to attract a good crowd they'll probably give you some stuff as a PR exercise. If you hobble to an assistant and quietly ask for some help you'll probably get nowt but a taxi.

vict17 · 08/11/2004 14:33

sweetheart, I didn't know you were pregnant but remember from a thread a while back and just wanted to say congratulations

vict17 · 08/11/2004 14:34

sweetheart · 08/11/2004 14:42

congrats sweetheart!!

dont know if the shop thing is true or not, but remember serving a lady in safeway once. she looked rather uncomfortable, hse said 'oh its ok, i'm just in labour'

she refused all help and just carried on.

vict17 · 08/11/2004 14:47

Mirage · 08/11/2004 19:17

My friends waters went in Tesco. She was so mortified that she abandonded her shopping & fled in tears.

bunny2 · 08/11/2004 19:32

Harrods will send a gift and a baby outfit - do you live near there?

Quackers · 08/11/2004 21:00

Apparantly the M and S theory is true! I spent ages in there to no avail! You have to agree to having pics in papaer etc..

sweetkitty · 08/11/2004 21:38

DP made me go pay for petrol at Safeway petrol station whilst I was in labour (early) didn't think it was "it" at the time

think I'll get free petrol?

misdee · 08/11/2004 21:39

i went into pizza hut the day my waters had broken, they allowed me to go home as nothing was happening, and dh sent me in to colelct the pizza. was prayingi wouldnt leave a puddle on their floor lol.

DelGirl · 08/11/2004 21:42

if its true about m&s perhaps bunny 2 can take root and we'll all get freebie brownies

MrsDoolittle · 08/11/2004 21:43

I went through the same thought processes sweetkitty
But the thing is, How would you go and tell the staff?
"Ermmm, excuse me? my waters have broken"
I kept imagining the reply "So?"
