Pregnancy

Talk about every stage of pregnancy, from early symptoms to preparing for birth.

My maternity unit, having kicked me out last time because 'they don't do complications' has become even more shite!

DD is 13 months, I'm pregnant - but because I'm breastfeeding we don't know how pregnant. So off I go to the docs to notify him and he says: no worries, you'll get an appointment for a dating scan within the next one or two weeks.

It's really important I do because I had some serious problems in my last pregnancy and I need to assess early on whether they are likely to recur and get assigned to the specialists etc.

So this was last Friday and having not heard anything I called the hospital direct today and after them claiming not to have received the form, then finally admitted they did have it they were delighted to inform me my dating scan would be for.....wait for it.....end of January next year.

Apparently they don't do dating scans till you are at least 12 weeks because 'it saves us having to scan people who might miscarry'. Particularly hurtful because I had a miscarriage a few months ago.

Bastards!

They can't even accept a consultant referral because I haven't had a dating scan. If it turns out I'm already two months gone, I will be FOUR MONTHS gone before my scan and it takes three to four weeks to get to see the consultant. So I'll be five months pregnant before we get to assess the health of both me and baby - which to be clear on this, could be a life and death thing.

I'm so fucking angry.

I don't mind paying for a dating scan myself, I can do that, but the 'we have a system, you will fit into it' attitude really sucks.

The worst bit, the receptionist said in a nod nod wink wink voice, 'of course if you had cause to come into the early pregnancy assessment unit you'd get an earlier scan'. ARRRRRRGGGGGHHHHH!

Thanks Mrs Badger and LiegeandLief I'll post and see how I get on.

LiegeandLief are you a big Fairport fan by chance? I run the recording studio (Woodworm) Dave Pegg used to own and I live in his old house (it's a tiny, tiny world!)

I am indeed a huge Fairport fan - how exciting! Do Fairport still use it? I think we probably also overlapped in Silver Star as my ds is 15 months. Were you admitted at all? I was on level 6 from July-August 2006 - maybe we crossed paths! It is indeed a very very small world...

Hope you've managed to get a referral by now. If your maternity notes are as voluminous as mine you won't have to beat the gp for very long!

Hi Liegeandlief - actually Chris Leslie was here recording yesterday and Gerry the day before but only as session musicians. Their last album was recorded here while I was in hospital giving birth. I was only in for Oct 2006 so we wouldn't have been in at the same time. I was admitted a day before DD was born and stayed 10 days because my liver apparently collapsed (I felt fine though ).

Off to the docs this morning so we'll see. Should be fine I think. I'm taking DD and she'll bite the doctor if he makes me cry

I have a scan on Tuesday and am now under silver star (hurrah!)

My GP was so helpful, she phoned the appts clerk personally to say 'no, January wasn't good enough' and after I left called me two hours later to say she'd been on at them a few more times and if I could go next Tuesday they'll see me.

I don't expect they will be glad to see me on Tuesday (I have to go to the original (bad) hospital to be booked in and scanned and then go to the JR for my consultant appt after that.

Thanks all of you for your advice.

Oh brilliant, I'm so glad you've got it sorted out.

Re the Fairport and Woodworm thing though: a million times over!

LOL Liegeandlief - don't suppose you want six brown leather cushions (of the type used in camper van seats) from the gallery sofa. Complete with FC arse prints and dodgy smell? Free to any a good home

Hmmm... arseprints...

Maybe I'm not as big a Fairport fan as I thought I was

whomovedmychocolate · 30/11/2007 21:08

Ah you must be a fairweather fairporter then
