Hi everyone, I’m around 5’8 and a size 22-24 so I am plus size, I’m very self conscious and I’m getting so anxious about how I will look once I get a bump, I’m currently around 10 weeks.

I’ve never heard of a B bump until recently and now this is really filling me with dread, I know it should matter aslong as baby is healthy but I can’t stand the thought of people looking at me because of the shape of my bump! This is probably going to sound so stupid to everyone else.. worrying about the shape of my bump..

With my first pregnancy I was around a size 16 and I had a beautiful bump..

Do any of you plus size ladies have any bump pictures to share!? X

Please don't stress( I know easier said than done ) you and your baby need to be relaxed. I honestly wouldn't worry what shape bump you have aslong as you and baby are healthy. Each pregnancy is different and your bump is only around for a little while so being upset about the bump size is wasted energy. I do see where your coming from but as soon as baby's born what your bump looked like will be old news

Im very similar to you xx im worried that they wont be able to even scan me because my tummy is so fat ! Since finding out im pregnant i have been eating so much better and have lost a stone but i am still really worried about being embarrassed xx

ElmtreeMama · 07/08/2021 13:27

I'm very obese (bmi 43)
I'm currently 24+4
I have a bump and look pregnant but look more pregnant than I am!!
I also have has scans no problem but then do write on my notes technically difficult scan due to maternal tissue characteristics
I haven't gained any weight since booking and am hoping I can maintain that.

Please don’t worry. I know it’s easier said than done and that was certainly me in my first pregnancy comparing my bump all the time. I’m a high bmi and I have had a B bump in both pregnancies, I find with myself I just don’t show as early as others would it’s easy to pass off just being a bit bigger. However I do show in the latter stages and it becomes very obvious I’m pregnant and my b bump evens out to where you can’t see the bottom bit. Xx

Try not to worry OP, you'll be fine.

I'd suggest you focus on fitness rather than worrying about weight, it'll help your recovery. From someone who knows!

zeromango · 07/08/2021 14:35

I'm worried too - my bump is really odd at the moment, it's a square B shape, but only 18 weeks (19 weeks on Monday) so hoping I'll have plenty of time to "fill out!" Ultimately though im just focusing on my baby boys health and well-being. It's my last pregnancy so I might not have pretty bump pics but im trying to enjoy every moment.

SouthwestSis · 07/08/2021 15:04

Don't let these negative thoughts enter your brain OP! The only important things right now are the health of you and your baby!
Can you work on increasing your activity levels by 5% to give yourself a goal, something positive to work towards? I use a step count on my phone and have been trying to increase by 300 steps each week, I'm viewing pregnancy as a training exercise for the marathon of labour!

Ttcbn2 · 07/08/2021 16:49

@orangejuicer @SouthwestSis I can’t up my fitness or anything at the minute I have hyperemesis and I’ve been put on the sick, I’ve lost 12lb since falling pregnant but obviously not how I wanted to loose it haha x

Oh sorry to hear that, I know my activity levels plummeted in the first trimester too, but taking anti-sickness medication helped and actually I think doing the walking helped me feel less sick too, it definitely helped constipation symptoms, so do try and make sure you are leaving the house once a day even if you are feeling dreadful, I promise you the vitamin D and fresh air will give you a bit of a lift!

FTEngineerM · 07/08/2021 20:46

Congratulations 🥳.

FWIW I’ve never looked at a woman pregnant or otherwise and thought ‘her stomach looks weird’.

Nevertheless I can understand why it would sound daunting. I don’t know about anyone else but Ive found pregnancy the least dignified thing I’ve ever done. I can’t reach my shins or anywhere south of my belly button for that matter to shave, my ankles look like pigs trotters that only fit into one pair of flip flops, I have a melasma moustache and I have eaten my way through more pots of Nutella than I will care to admit.

Are you able to get some nice maternity dresses now, so that you have something there in the wardrobe if you do feel self conscious one day?

orangejuicer · 08/08/2021 07:24

Hi @ttcbn2 sorry to hear that. I wasnt thinking anything strenuous- as pp have said walking is great. Just being strong in your body will pay dividends later.

All the best for the rest of your pregnancy.

Nicola2182 · 23/08/2021 16:28

I am 11+3 and have a BMI of 40. I'm also very worried about mainly not showing and people just thinking I look fat Sad
I have had 2 scans though and have never had any issues seeing baby.. I think every woman's bump is different :)
I'm more worried about preeclampsia, diabetes and the birth being plus size

Shannondd3108 · 23/08/2021 22:10

@Nicola2182 my bmi is also 40 and I’m currently 38+6 🥰 I didn’t have any bump until weeks 32 then out of nowhere I look huge! It’s an obvious pregnancy bump as opposed to just fat too! I had no problem with any scan even though I carry a fair pouch on my belly! Do have a B belly though I’m afraid x

CD92 · 24/08/2021 02:41

Hello lovely! Please try not to stress over it - I did the same. I'm a size 18/20 and was convinced I'd never have a bump. I was also convinced that if I did have a bump it would be a B. I started showing a round bump at around 17/18 weeks (noticeably a baby bump). I'm now 26 weeks but this picture was from 23 weeks. Hope that helps 🥰

Have nothing to contribute OP just that I’m sure you’ll look great.

I’m just pleased to see a post of plus sized mamas because sometimes I feel like I’m the only one!

pixiedust21 · 25/08/2021 01:00

Hey ladies

This was something I worried about a lot as I had a BMI of 39 at booking in.

So far everything has gone smoothly, scans have been okay, maybe not the clearest but good enough to see baby! Smile No other issues and I'm currently 31 weeks.

Was convinced I'd never get a proper bump but this was me last week.

Oh and I Started getting a proper bump at about 24 weeks ish!

@pixiedust21 thanks for replying! I’m only 13 weeks, had 3 perfect scans so far though, still panicking about my bump which I know is stupid!!!

What a beautiful bump you have!! ♥️ X

@Ttcbn2 thank you ❤️

You will get yours too - even up to 23/24 weeks I was thinking I'll probably not even look remotely pregnant and then it just popped out.

Don't worry if it takes longer to pop out than you think it "should", just trust your body and obviously as long as baby is fine that's the main thing.

Being pregnant has changed how I feel about my body. I would never want my stomach in photos, now I am always touching it, looking at it and photographing it.

You will be just fine ❤️
