Hi

I've applied for a new job , but also want to start trying for a baby. I've confused myself with the government advice so will hold off trying for a baby until I hopefully start my new job. My question is how long do I have to work for an employer before I qualify for statatory maternity pay ?

Thankyou !

You need have worked there for 26 weeks by the time you are 25 weeks pregnant so basically as long as you arent pregnant before you start working then you should qualify.

Yep what @dementedpixie said!

Correct but I'd add that weeks pregnant is counted from the period date so be careful around your actual start date.

I missed mine by four weeks as I was doing IVF between employers. I don't regret anything but I could have done with 6 weeks at 90%.

I would say best thing to do is wait a month.
