We waited till after my first scan just so in case there was anything wrong & also it gave us a bit of time to adapt being our first, but we're unsure this time how long to leave it, we still feel we need some space to get used to the idea and make plans etc.

about 5/6 weeks each time

I am 17 weeks and have just started to tell people I know.. Told some of my friends a bit earlier - about 14 weeks. Told our parents after 12 week scan.

12 weeks - told a few special people before scan and everyone else after. I think it's really nice to have some private time to get your head round the news but there's no right or wrong. tell people when youre ready and one at a time so you can change your mind if it doesn't feel right yet. in general i think waiting till scan is a good plan just so you can have this wonderful secret for a while.

Told immediate family after 7 weeks; boss at 10 weeks because I kept yawning and rushing to the loo to be sick or go for a wee; exercise instructors at 7 weeks so that I didn't do any damage at the gym - and everyone else after my 12 week scan.

First time I didn't even tell my mum till after the first scan.
Second time I told close family straight away but no-one else.

Take as long as you like. I told my elderly parents pretty quick (couldn't have forgiven myself if they had suddenly been ill and not known), but with other friends and family just waited till I saw them after 12 week scan. For some, they didn't get to know until I was five or six months gone. With work, I didn't mention it for ages and ages, in fact, it wasn't till I got offered my first seat on the tube that I thought crikey! I can't get away with this for much longer!
