Healthy eating …. HELP

I’m 10 weeks pregnant and need help. My diet is awful. I have been so nauseous I’ve been eating nothing until about 4pm and then I get hungry and eat tea (usually pesto pasta) crisps, and fruit. Ladies has anyone got any meal ideas , planners anything. I’m obviously wanting to eat right for my baby and I’m just rubbish!

What sort of things do you like?

I love doing a broccoli and smoked salmon pasta with a little cream cheese mixed in.

Tomato and basil soup with some crusty bread?

I’m about 7 weeks and I’ve gotten a really bad sweet tooth. No appetite unless it’s sugary so I’m finding it a bit hard. But today I’ve had:

Crumpets for breakfast
Smoked salmon and cream cheese bagels with rocket for lunch with a custard doughnut as my treat.

For dinner will be a sweet potato cottage pie.

Exactly the same as me with the sweet tooth but I’m adament I need to be healthier. I like the sound of that thank you- I wasn't sure if salmon was allowed. Thanks so much for your ideas :!

In the first trimester sometimes you just have to eat what you can and worry about 'healthy eating' later.

Baby will take all the nutrients they need from you first.

In my first trimesters I just wanted carbs and comfort food. I couldn't stand food smells and in the evening I couldn't face anything.

Maybe do a rota of things you can have each week so you don't have to think of what to make every day.

Lunches:
-Soup and crusty bread
-Caesar salad (really easy to make yourself!)
-Bagel/toastie
-Scrambled egg/cheese on toast
-Jacket potato.

Dinners each week e.g. have a:

  1. Pasta dish (spag bol, pasta bake, meatballs, lasagne, carbonara etc).
  2. Fish (Salmon and potatoes, fish and homemade chips)
  3. Stir-fry/fajitas (beef, prawn, chicken etc)
  4. Curry dish (something with rice)
  5. Pie (fish pie, shepherds pie, chicken pie etc.)
  6. Simple eggs/beans/cheese on toast etc.
  7. Roast dinner

I wasn’t sure about smoked salmon either and I was a bit too lazy to check this morning and decided once won’t hurt and I’ll check again later to see what online says 😂

However NHS says you can safely eat smoked fish and only to avoid raw fish like sushi unless frozen first :)

@Twizbe thank you, I am literally just eating when I can manage to as the nausea is pretty bad.
@Fankehxudb thanks so much it’s hard work thinking of things sometimes - great suggestions.
@MyMabel I’m definitely going to have the broccoli and smoked salmon pasta tomorrow :)

I totally agree with twizbe
Eat what you can, when you can. Remember to take your folic acid and vitamin D and your baby will get all they need
I got so upset around week 7 thinking baby was suffering because I couldn't eat. I would cry when I was hungry thinking I was the worst mum
My nausea stopped around 14 weeks. I'm 30 weeks now and can't stop eating so you will definitely make up for it later Grin

I am now twelve weeks, and from 6-11 went off veg, eggs, protein, meat- basically my low-carb diet I was eating while TTC went out the window. I was really sad about it because I'd felt great pre-pregnancy on it and had lost 10 kilos! When I got my BFP the only thing I could stomach was weetbix and grapes.

I'm now 12 weeks and feel soooooo much better and suddenly want carrots and hummus for lunch instead of crisps and toast.

Don't worry OP, it will pass. Just eat what you can for now and when your hormones sort themselves out you'll crave healthier food.

The first trimester is so hard, don't put pressure on yourself.

Kt1111 · 06/08/2021 19:48

@messybun101 I’m sure I will make up
For it. I’m a big eater normally and have lost weight since being pregnant. Hopefully in a few weeks it will get a bit easier.
I was exactly the same feeling guilty for
Not eating enough of the right things, thank you for your reassurance.

@Psmith83 I literally bought humours and carrot sticks today because I really fancied it. The good thing is I’m eating a lot of fruit. I will stop being so hard on myself. X
