Blood pressure 130/90

Had my 31 week midwife appointment today, and after checking my blood pressure twice it came back at 130/90 both times so they want me to go back in on Wednesday to be checked again.

I'm trying not to stress because that obviously won't help to bring it down, but has anyone else has this and it been ok? I know it needs to be 140/90 to be classed as high, and it's never been low during pregnancy but I just can't stop worrying that I'm going to end up with pre-eclampsia. No obvious swelling, other than what you'd expect for this time in pregnancy due to weight gain!

Mine started to go a bit weird at about 36 weeks. I had to go to day unit a couple of times a week to be monitored and have the movement machine on baby. They did a urine sample each time too which was always clear. Everything was absolutely fine, I just felt like crap for the last few weeks and spent a very tedious amount of time in the day unit staring at a wall. Try not to worry, you will be fine.

I have white coat syndrome and my bp has been roughly the same as yours the entire pregnancy. Urine has been clear every time & I’m 38 weeks now - try not to worry too much xx

Wow I've just googled white coat syndrome and that really sounds like how I feel! I have generalised anxiety disorder so I'm a nervy person as it is, but I had a near panic attack in the car on the way to my appointment knowing I was going to have all the checks done and even more so because it wasn't with my normal midwife!

Was your urine clear? I wouldn't be overly worried if it's the first time and you've not got protein in your urine (or any other symptoms). I had a couple of occasions of higher blood pressure (not over 140/90) with my first pregnancy that turned out to be nothing, mostly when it was taken during stressful appointments or I'd been speed waddling the hallways to not being late after the usual hospital nightmare parking.

Yep, I have generalised anxiety too! Obviously if your bp goes really high then there is medical need to intervene but try and trust your body and also talk to your midwife about white coat xx

Urine clear (other than a bit of sugar which I'm blaming on the coffee I had before my appointment) and no other symptoms along with blood pressure, I was asked so many times if I'd had headaches and I feel like she didn't believe me that I hadn't the amount of times she asked!

Definitely going to look into it before I go back in on Wednesday so I'm confident in what I'm talking about so I don't get nerves from that too 😂

If you’re concerned you could get a home bp monitor. I’m on medication for high bp and my consultant has me monitor my blood pressure at home because it still jumps up when I have it taken in a medical setting even though it’s well controlled by the medication.

Yeah they keep asking about headaches, nausea and visual disturbances if you present with anyway high blood pressure, as if you might not have understood the question the first ten times 😂 I had none of them when I had pre eclampsia and they kept on asking.

If you have white coat syndrome a good thing to do is ask them to take 3 readings a few minutes apart and go with the best one, which is usually the second or third once the panic of the situation has eased.

I had post eclampsia with my last baby. I had to go back into hospital after about 6 days I think. I really did have a headache though, it was right on top like I'd banged it.
