Where’s that pregnancy glow at!?

Whilst I’ve been blessed with a pregnancy (which I’m so grateful for!) I’ve also been blessed with pregnancy acne 😭

Previously I’d use AHA’s/BHA’s/ retinol to help control my skin, however now certain products are off limits I have no idea how to treat my skin! I’ve never had the most amazing skin but this is just awful!

Is anyone else in the same boat? I’ve read threads about your skin getting better the further along you are (currently 7 weeks) however it’s really knocking my confidence.

I guess I’m just hoping there’s someone else that can relate or suggest alternative, pregnancy safe products?

Congratulations on your pregnancy. Unfortunately that pregnancy glow never came for me 😂 I'm now 30 weeks pregnant. I haven't had spots since late teens but from 5 weeks started getting so many breakouts big and painful on my face, they lasted till atleast half way through second trimester and they then went, only to start getting big red spots on my back?! What the heck! Still dealing with those now. Looking forward to being spotless 😂

Unfortunately nothing helped clear the spots, even medical spot cream from doctors. I found sudocream soothed painful spots quickest. But other than that you just have to ride it out!

Xx

Thanks @jessicakxx and you too! How are you finding it at 30 weeks? I can only hope I get as far! 🤞

Oh no 😂 not exactly what I wanted to hear.. however I think I’d take them on my back over my face any day! I hope you get your “glow” soon 😂😘

Thank you ❤️ absolutely fine as it stands, I've had a really nice pregnancy in the way of I had no sickness or nausea or any particular 'bad' symptoms, so incredibly lucky.

You might well clear your spots quicker than I did! It's not true that girls make you spotty either cause I'm having a boy 😂 I'm sure you look amazing, so try not to worry to much about them, just let your skin breathe and if we get any sun again, try and catch some sun on your face xx

I've had terrible skin since I was about 13, tried every treatment including 2 rounds of roaccutane. The only thing that helped was the pill so when I came off it to conceive I was back to square one. I did have some acne early in pregnancy but I'm now 24 weeks & haven't had a spot for months. Wouldn't say I was glowing but at age 37 it's nice to finally have clear skin for once 😁 Hopefully yours will clear up as time goes on!

My glow didn't arrive until 28 weeks op

You got there in the end @messybun101 🙌🏻 Gives me hope!

@JackJack84 that gives me hope! I’ve also had similar experiences with the pill and two rounds of roaccutane too actually - very short lived though, it always came back! Fingers crossed I get the same luck again 24 weeks 🤞

That’s amazing for 30 weeks! @jessicakxx lucky you! Thanks my love, I’m trying not to wear makeup encase it is that, that is interfering. Fingers crossed we all get a last bit of sunshine soon 😍

Bakuchiol is a good alternative to retinol in pregnancy 🙌

lockdownbabyx · 05/08/2021 23:45

@HRP1990 have you been told not to use AHA and BHA during pregnancy? My midwife told me I was fine to continue using mine as only a tiny amount gets absorbed into the skin. I only use it once a week anyway, however I'm almost 28 weeks and have continued using it as normal. I'd def speak to your midwife about it though and double check, especially if you are on stronger, prescribed skincare medication. Also I will say I still haven't got the pregnancy glow 😂 I'm definitely more spotty than usual xx

HRP1990 · 06/08/2021 07:20

@AllSinging ah thanks so much! I’ve just read abit more about it and it’s plant based - I’m going to give that ago!

@lockdownbabyx I haven’t seen a midwife yet as it’s abit early for me but I’ve read no BHA over 2% so that’s good to know. My skin has just gotten really sensitive so I thought it might be down to the AHA’s as glycolic is very strong I might try a different acid instead?

Sounds like the pregnancy glow is abit of a myth so far 😂
