V early scan, ultrasound tech not nice

Positive test a few weeks ago. As I was unclear of my period dates, I was referred for an early dating scan. Had this today (Ended up being internal) but I was told it’s too early, they can see very early signs of an embryo but nothing else at the moment. I asked if I could have any estimate or how many weeks and they said I couldn’t Ask that. I asked for a photo of the scan and she inferred I was silly to ask for this so early.

I said at the start I was a bit nervous but the tech wasn’t very kind, barely even acknowledged me, and then moaned about ‘they’ referring people too early.

I’ve been referred to EPU and will go back in a few weeks.

Guess I’m just asking if anybody’s had any similar experiences and what to expect next really?

@Ribrabrob sorry to hear of your experience. Although thunder horrible circumstances, I have had a great experience with our EPU.

Depending on how far gone you are, there is very little to see until at least 6 weeks so a picture probably wouldn't have been very unclear.

Hopefully when you go back in a few week you'll get to see the little flicker we all hope to see.

Sounds like our epu! They are dreadful and there is not a single nice person who works there i honestly do not know why the women who work there chose to work in that field!

They usually don't scan until at least 6 weeks because it's quite unlikely to see anything more than an empty sac or yolk before then. I can't imagine they routinely give out photos that early as there is literally nothing to see. She definitely should have been nicer to you about it though, very easy to explain the process without being rude! You can assume you'll be around or over 6 weeks whenever you have to go back for another scan, so can probably guesstimate how far you are just now based on your repeat scan date. It can vary a lot in the early weeks though as baby grows at such different rates for everyone. You'll probably find you won't get a definite due date until your 12 week scan. Congratulations and I hope they are kinder to you next time Flowers

That's not nice at all. I think you've been unlucky there as I had a super early scan due to some pains and was given a pictures of basically nothing lol. Some people are just rude...sorry you had to deal with that OP. Try not to take it personally and hope you get a different sonographer next time x

Thanks, everyone. It is strange that these people go into these jobs when they don’t seem to enjoy it!

I’ve already been contacted about the next scan so just hope that there will be more to see then :)

I’ve been to my local EPU many times unfortunately, but have no living babies 😭 I find the staff there are so lovely! Except a few of the sonographers. On one of my scans she asked me a question and I answered her, then she snapped at me and said ‘stop talking, I can’t concentrate!’
My EPU also don’t let you have photos of the scans. I don’t think they realise that even though it might not be clear, it’s still your baby

We had a fab tech for our 8 week scan. The woman was so kind but the woman who did our 12 week one was absolutely vile, kept getting annoyed at me because the baby wouldn't stay still and she rushed through the whole thing and grunted our due date at us. It was really upsetting
