Heavy bleeding 1st trimester

Hi,
I'm just 10 weeks pregnant and yesterday after waking up I started bleeding VERY heavily (to the point it was dripping down my leg)! Thinking worst case scenario me and my partner rushed straight to the a&e department. I had a scan and the doctor said the baby was okay and they could hear and see a heartbeat. They checked my cervix and that was also okay. The doctor wasn't certain why I was bleeding so much but was happy to send me home as I live close to the hospital and told me to come back if it worsened or didn't show signs of stopping. The doctor did mention it could be the placenta leaking? But didn't really elaborate on this. Bleeding has lightened dramatically today with only a few streaks when I wipe.
Has anyone else experienced heavy bleeding and been okay? Did you find out what caused it?

Hi there - I had some bleeding at 9 weeks last week. Just posted about it on the other 9 weeks and bleeding thread. I can't seem to link it here but if you go on that thread you should be able to see my longish comment :)

Here you go - I managed to copy my response from the other thread! Hope it helps.

Hi all - I had this last week at 9 weeks. Felt some leaking so went to the loo thinking it's just discharge or pee (weak bladder!) but saw bright blood and then more came out when I peed and then a clot a little smaller than my fist came out. I thought it was the baby and was was shaking not knowing what to do as only the week before was everything confirmed as OK when I went for a reassurance scan. I went to EPU the following morning as I was convinced it was another MC (had first MC in Feb this year at 5 weeks). With God's Grace baby was fine with heartbeat. I'd just lost some uterus lining tissue due to the forming of the placenta pushing everything down and causing some scarring. They said I'd have some more bleeding but it's normal. I only had some light browny spotting but no red blood or clots since then (hopefully no more). It's an awful thing to experience as you just think of the worst (especially after a previous loss) but it can all be OK. Hope this provides some comfort to those experiencing the same x

How long after your big bleed did you continue bleeding for?

This happened to me at 13 weeks pregnant it started with me feeling like I was leaking went to grab my partner after I had been to the loo and the blood was just gushing down my legs all over the bathroom and all through my clothes. We honestly thought the worst as you can imagine got to a & e (praise the lord they rushed me through the queue) and low and be hold I started leaking through my clothes again when I finally got put into a side room. We had a scan the next morning after still passing blood every time
I went loo and to my surprise baby was absolutely fine turns out I have a bleed above the sac which may not heal until after baby is born. Iv set it off again just in the last few days by walking for no more then 10 minutes which means I am now never really able to leave the house but all is fine.

Annoyingly I’d had spotting the week before and nothing was found then had my 12 week scan two days before this episode and nothing had been mentioned then either

Ive bled in both of my pregnancies, both at weirdly the same gestation, week 5 and week 14 weirdly.
I have a 6 year old and a 4 month old. Never found the cause for either.

I had a bleed at 8 weeks 5 days, was like a period amount for me. Scan showed baby fine and some bleeding from the placenta implanting. I spotted brown all the way from then until 12 week scan, nothing since, now nearly 15 weeks! As long as no pain and loads of clotting you should be fine!

Hi,

I had a massive bleed at 13 weeks, just like you describe. Baby was fine and the doctors didn’t know why I was bleeding. I continued to bleed everyday for a month after that and then bled at 30 and 37 weeks. I was induced at 38 weeks due to the “unexplained bleeding” as it was put, and now have a happy and healthy baby boy. It is absolutely terrifying but some women can bleed on and off. I never found out what caused my bleeding. The placenta was mentioned at the start but it seemed to be fine!

Yes I had almost identical experience at end of 1st trimester. I was convinced I was miscarrying but went on to have healthy DS. I did have further bleeding and other complications but DS was a stayer. He’s now nearly 17 and 6’3”.
Bleeding is common and often no cause is found.
