Im freaking out because ive had 2 miscarriages about 15yrs ago. Just got married 3 months ago and we decided to give it a try. Im about 5w3d and went for labs and scan today. It did show a well defined gestational sac, but no fetal pole. I have to go back in 2 weeks. Has this happened to anyone thats scanned early?

I had a scan at 5 weeks last year with no fetal pole, unfortunately the pregnancy ended in miscarriage but I also had bleeding. When I had my scan they said they weren't concerned & that it was normal not to see much at that stage. Fingers crossed that you get good news at your repeat scan 🤞🏼

At 5 weeks and 5 day’s my scan showed a question mark fetal pole literally they wrote
?fp… as in they weren’t sure if it was a fetal pole. My dates were exact as I had fertility treatment, but they tried to tell me I was more like 5 weeks or less and could go either way. I went back 8 day’s later and there was the baby with a heart beat. I’m
Now 39 weeks with My questionable fetal pole and getting induced this week. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you 🤞

With DD I had a scan at 5w due to a bleed and long history of previous miscarriages. At the scan (TV scan) the sonographer could see the sack but no fetal pole. The EPU said it would be classed as pregnancy of unknown location or possible misscarage but did heavily emphasise that it could still be too early. I had bloods taken that day which were repeated 2 days later. My bloods were doubling as normal so I was invited back for a scan a week later where a fetal pole was seen. At that scan I was measuring at 5w so the previous one could've just been too early. Two weeks later I had another scan where baby was growing well and a heartbeat could be seen. I was still measuring over a week behind at this stage however by my 12 week scan measurements had all caught up and my due date was the same as predicted one by midwife.

Sorry for long message. I just wanted to reassure that at this stage everything is so tiny that there is still a chance of a positive outcome.

Ive had no bleeding. Just missed period, sore boobs etc. Thats why i went. I hope for a better outcome for you in future

In that case I wouldn't be worried if I was you. There's loads of stories on here from women in your position who've gone in to have healthy pregnancies. I'm currently 24 weeks pregnant, third pregnancy but first to go past 7 weeks & I know how nerve wracking the early weeks can be. Best of luck to you!

@stormelf i was also dated at 5 weeks although based on my lmp i wouldve been just 4 days more. But i did have labs today and ill have another scan in 2 weeks. I appreciate the details because i felt ok when i saw the sac, but when i read no fetal pole,my heart sank a little. So im hoping in these next 2 weeks , to see some results. I really want this

Hi all
I went for an early private scan 2 weeks ago. They saw a gestational sac and a yolk sac but said no fetal pole so probably a blighted ovum and come back in 2 weeks. Sac measured 16.5mm so was around 6.5 weeks.
Returned today for re-scan still saying blighted ovum yet report says fetal pole was there measuring 4.2mm and sac was 14mm ? They have referred me to my early pregnancy unit but I don’t get how it wasn’t there on first and now it’s there ?
