Hi i had my midwife appointment yesterday and the baby's head is partially engaged already (just a fifth). she says it only happens in about ten percent of pregnancies and the baby can of course move back up again but i just wondered how likely it is that the baby will be be born a bit early? she said not neccessarily but i wanted to hear of anybody else's experiences? i was born six weeks premature myself and for that and other reasons ie quite a big bump i am convinced it will be born early.

Hi my dd2 was up and down like a bride's nightie, engaged then not etc and she was one week early. dd1 didn't bother engaging until I was in labour on her due date. Sorry not much help, I'm sure someone who knows more will answer you soon.

hi fab, my dd was 2/5 engaged at 32 weeks and fully engaged by 35 weeks. she was born 2 days early and i was HUGE!!!! I too was convinced dates were wrong and she'd be early, and every da i woke up thinking "is this it?!" midwife also thought my dates were wrong and gave me a stretch and sweep 10 days before due date, when i was already 2cm dilated.

But no, dd arrived almost on time with the longest possible labour ever!! good luck, let us know how it goes

thanks for your comments. i have also thought my dates might be wrong even though both scans said the same date. i think because i have got it in my head now that it is going to be born early and almost mentally prepared for it to happen any day now i am going to have what feels like the longest wait in history as in reality it sounds like it will go to term. oh well!

the only weird thing is that i had to have some foetal heart monitoring at 26 weeks and the doctor was really suprised the heart beat showed up so strong as normally they can't pick it up until 28 weeks. they were quite surprised so things like this make me wonder....the fact that a few weeks ago my midwife thought i looked about five weeks more pregnant than i actually was was also food for thought...

ps just read your comment re 'longest possible labour ever' - hope this is not somethign to do with it being engaged early

My beanie was engaged (again, just a fifth) at 32 weeks then nothing at 33 weeks and now engaged a fifth at 36 weeks - I'm also being referred for a growth scan as he's above the 95th centile now

I'm hoping he'll be a bit early otherwise he's gonna be huge!!
