I am currently 11 weeks pregnant and at the beginning I was straight to sleep as was really tired, when I get in bed but now I just lay there thinking bad thoughts about things from my past which Id forgot which are keeping me awake which are then followed by weird nightmares, I am starting to dread going to bed as I cant seem to control what im thinking, some things I do even know if happened and im just making up in my head, is this normal? and have you any suggestions?

Oh, hun, being pregnant is an emotional time, and all sorts of things surface. It's perfectly normal - hopefully that's one less worry for you now.

Perhaps it would help if you off-loaded the worries for the night. I used to keep notebook and pencil by the bed and write things down, telling myself that the worry was now on paper and would keep until morning. Sometimes by morning it would no longer be a concern, other times it would but I would be better able to deal with it.

Some people use worry dolls for this

Hi Holly

I too had very similar problems when I was early pregnant (now 33 weeks). I think it's just general anxiety and maybe your mind organising itself and closing off issues ready for your new chapter in life.
I took up pregnancy yoga and pilates to help me relax, I also used to get up and had a hot milky drink. I would try breathing exercises to relax.

I look back on it now and think the sleepless nights were required to get rid of the demons that were bothering me. I now feel much more positive. Not sure if that helps but I guess I'm trying to say try not to worry too much as I think it is fairly normal.

oh thankyou so much feel so much better now, makes me feel better that theres people out there who understands and im not alone, it all makes more sence when you put it like that and maybe ill be able to switch the bad thoughts off soon for good and look forward to the next chapter as you said, thanks again x

hi holly, i had terrible nightmares during my pg, and i was having acupuncture for appalling sickness. Mentioned dreams to acupunturist and she treated me for those too - worked a trat, slept soundly thereafter (except for lack of bladder space ) Might be worth a try if its not too expensive - i was lucky, we get acupuncture on nhs down here for severe pg related symptoms. good luck, will be thinking of you.
