Morning all,
I am 5+2 today and have known about this pregnancy for about 2 weeks! This is my first pregnancy and I am a pretty anxious Mum-To-Be!😬

I have an early scan booked for when I will be 6+5 but I am struggling to wait and it's really affecting my day to day.

I would like to book an early viability reassurance scan for this week (be about 5+5) and I am wondering if anyone has had a scan around this time and has any information or even pictures they are comfortable sharing?? What could I expect to see? Has anyone seen a heartbeat? Would they be able to detect ectopic? Etc etc sorry for the long post but any info and/or pics are appreciated :)

Thanks for reading!!

@nervyy
Leave it to nxt week it possible you could c a heart beat but also possible you might not and it will cause unnecessary stress a lot of people don't c a heart beat to 6 weeks some even l8r, so I would hold of a lot of epu don't scan until 7 weeks because of the stress it can cause unless ur bleeding or in pain 💚

You should wait until closer to 8 weeks with a private scan. Scans too early tend to cause you more worry as you can end up seeing less than you expect. Dates and baby size can differ a fair bit at that early stage. 8wk you tend to have a much better chance of seeing a heartbeat but that is still not a guarantee that all will be well so the worry will still be there. Congratulations and good luck.

I've had scans around 8wk by lmp in 2 pregnancies, at both baby(ies) measured behind my dates. 1st at epau was twins behind with heartbeats, they caught up with lmp by the dating scan and carried them to 38wk. 2nd private at ultrasound direct was behind by 6 days with heartbeat, I miscarried a week later.

I had to have early scans for medical reasons. Nothing showed on the scan until I was 7 weeks, unfortunately. Very scary, but baby fine.

I had an early scan at 5+4 with my current pregnancy where we were lucky enough to see a heartbeat, but that seems to be rare. In my other pregnancies I didn’t see anything until nearer 7 weeks.

A lot of private companies won't book until 7 weeks anyway. So check the company you were thinking of booking with.

I wouldn't go any earlier than you have already booked.

This was my scan at 5 weeks last year after having brown spotting. There was no fetal pole or heartbeat seen at this stage & the scan did nothing to reassure me. This pregnancy unfortunately ended in a mc.

In my current pregnancy I had my first scan at 7 weeks & saw the heartbeat which was much more reassuring. Didn't mean I was out of the woods by any stretch but it did help.

Ive had a lot of early scans. Honestly I'd wait until 7 or 8 weeks. 5/6 weeks is so early to see anything and it's very possible you won't see a heartbeat at that stage (and everything is still fine) which would just increase your anxiety.

JackJack84 · 02/08/2021 12:20

Just for your info these are my 7 & 8 weeks scans which showed the heartbeat in my current pregnancy.

My first one was 6+5 and even then I thought I might end up really disappointed if there was no heartbeat. I think before that you would just be setting yourself up to be upset when it could be totally fine if you waited til the following week
