I’m absolutely freaking out. We’ve moved house and I’ve been spray painting metal shelves, varnishing furniture and using white spirit to wash brushes.

Wasn’t feeling well and originally assumed it was the fumes from painting the house and stress of moving, but when it didn’t subside I then took a test this evening and it’s a glaring positive.

My cycles have been completely off kilter since I had the covid jab and I didn’t even think about the possibility of being pregnant when I was doing the DIY and after googling am absolutely beside myself that I’m going to cause myself to miscarry or the baby will have some kind of birth defect. I don’t know what to do, the internet says repeated exposure can cause problems and this was two days I was in the fumes. I didn’t even wear a mask every time I used the spray paint as it was outside. I can’t believe how stupid I’ve been.

Relax Thanks
A lot of people don't know they are pregnant and do all sorts!! Drugs etc.
You will be fine, you were outside so that's even better!
For now, lay off the spray paint!
Congrats!

OP relax.

How many weeks do you think you might be?

You are very unlikely to have caused your baby any harm.

And congratulations!

You are more than likely to be fine. When they say prolonged exposure they mean daily for weeks and weeks not just 2 days. You were also outside and not in an enclosed space. If you have to do more work wear a mask but it wouldn't stop me doing any more work.

Thank you all. Have had a cry and a cup of tea and feel a bit better now. No more spray painting for me. The irony the spray painted shelves are for the spare room which is supposed to be my partner’s home office which all being well might have a slightly different purpose(!)

@orangejuicer I think around 4 weeks, my cycles haven’t been right at all since the jab and what I thought was a period a few weeks ago I now suspect must have been some kind of mid-cycle bleeding. I think I’ll get a digital one that says the weeks just to make sure.

Please don't worry. I moved house when I was 12 weeks pregnant and redecorated all throughout the pregnancy. I think that you did the spray painting outside would have help too. I made sure all windows were open and didn't wear a mask. I hope this helps you feel at ease.

I did all kinds of painting when I knew I was pregnant. Didn't consider it a particular risk really.

A cup of tea and a cry is a very effective way to feel better during pregnancy Grin

You'll be fine OP.

Garman · 02/08/2021 08:47

It's fine, nothing to bother worrying about at all.

Apeirogon · 02/08/2021 08:51

Don't worry OP. Before I knew I was pregnant with DC1 I drank lots of vodka and went in a hot tub! Couldn't believe it when I saw the positive test!
