7 weeks, no heartbeat, measuring only 5 weeks

I had an early ultrasound today but it wasn’t great news..

According to my own calculated dates I should be 7 weeks today but the scan only showed a Fetal pole measuring 2.6mm which suggested I’m only approx. 5 weeks.
They also couldn’t detect a heartbeat.

They’ve suggested that I’ve either got my dates wrong or it’s a missed miscarriage.
I’ve got a nhs rescan in 10 days time but I’ve also booked a private scan for 5 days time. (I couldn’t bring myself to wait a full 10 days to see if there’s any change)

I’ve had very very light spotting which I only noticed when wiping, and only happened once. Also been having a few painful sharp pelvic cramps for the last week that come and go.

Unfortunately I’m not holding out much hope of a positive outcome, the dates/current size just don’t add up and I’m quite sure of when I ovulated as I’ve been doing ovulation predictor tests.

LMP- 15th June
Positive OPK- 26th June
Ovulation- 27th June
1st Positive Pregnancy test- 7th July
1st Ultrasound (CRL 2.6mm)- 1st August

What does everyone think of my chances?
Has anyone been through something like this?

Any responses are highly appreciated,
Thanks x

This is very common with early scans. Although you know when you ovulated, you don't know when you implanted or how long it took for things to get going.

It could be that you're dates are off. It's also very hard to date an early pregnancy so the scan measurements could be off.

It could also be a non viable pregnancy.

I'm sorry not to be more help, but really it is a wait and see situation. I hope it's just dates that are out.

I had an early scan due to bleeding and was ask if my dates were correct as no heartbeat detected. Went back two weeks later and my date was brought forward. At 12 week it was brought forward again. Babies don’t grow along linear paths. What @Twizbe said covers it. Keeping you in my thoughts.

I agree with twiz. Sorry OP. It’s crap having to wait / being in limbo, hope the time passes quickly enough.

EishetChayil · 01/08/2021 17:50

It's so difficult to say, OP, but I wish you so much luck that it's a positive outcome.

Thanks

Hey hun. You couldve ovulated later than you though. Opk only identifies an lh surge and your body couldve failed to ovulate. Last month I got a positive opk on cd10 and I wasn't 100% sure of ovulating that early and I measured bbt so kept testing with opk. I eventually got a proper peak on cd23 which was confirmed with my temps. You might have not ovulated that day and in actually fact ovulated later. I will keep my FX for you. Xx

Sorry to say this but if you had a positive pregnancy test that early then your dates don't line up with the scan and it doesn't look good Flowers. I measured 6 weeks with a slow hb at 8 weeks (and sure of dates) and miscarried.

whistlers · 01/08/2021 18:07

Sorry OP, similar happened to me and it was a mmc. I was sure of dates and was measuring a week behind, by the next scan the baby had only developed for two days after the first scan.

Hope it's not the case for you Thanks

Thanks everyone for the well wishes. I’m quite a realistic person so I’m aware my chances aren’t great but I’ve still got my fingers crossed.

Thanks Smile
I was doing my bbt as well but it was my first month tracking so there wasn’t a distinctive temp pattern.

I got a positive OPK on cd 12 then negative OPK’s from cd 13 - cd 18. (Cd 18 is when I stopped doing them)
My first positive pregnancy test was cd 23 so I’m not convinced that if I ovulated any later than cd 13 I would of got a positive HPT so early Sad

This has happened to me, and the outcome wasn’t good. There are plenty stories of women who have had a positive outcome though.

Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst.

It’s a awful time waiting it out though.

All the best OP hope that it isn’t too long a wait xxx

I'm going through the same thing I used clearblue advanced ovalation test and track my bbt, I got my peak on cd13 I know I ovalated on cd 14 because of my bbt and got a bfp 10 days later, I went for a scan at the epu when I was 6+2 and was measuring 5+2 they said to go bk In 10 days to check the development and said for me not to worry as the days of the ultrasound can be off by 5 or so days, tbh I'm not feeling very hopeful in my situation because I know there is no way I ovalated later, I hope you get good news on your private scan on Thursday, ⚘
