Maternity clothes

I'm 13 +2 and just wondering when you ladies started wearing maternity clothes? I've turned into a sugar monster so my normal clothes are getting uncomfortably tight, however my maternity clothes just swamp me and look silly. Have o got long to wait? 😄

Maternity leggings at 8wk as I wasquite bloated early on and normal trousers were very uncomfortable. I could get away with tops a size larger until 24wk then had to get maternity tops. Now a lot of my maternity stuff is looking overstretched on me, I'm 37+5wk now with a very big baby.

I bought mayernity jeans at 19 weeks when my favourite high waisted ones wouldnt do up. My bump is quite high so im finding most clothes now are looking too snug so I have resorted to maternity at 21 weeks.
I can get away with baggy tshirts but they just make me look like I have no shape.

You might as well just get it. I resisted it all the way through and then gave in at the end as literally had nothing to wear and was feeling fat and ugly. Didn’t get much wear out the clothes.

I used maternity bump bands for a while. They enabled me to use my normal trousers for a little longer.

I'm 14 weeks and been in my maternity leggings and jeans for a week or so. Make sure you get the over the bump ones, so much more comfortable!

Since about 11 weeks I've felt bloated and anything tight round my waist is really irritating so have been wearing dresses since then. I bought nighties as I couldn't stand PJs.
I've been wearing a mix of floaty or skater or empire line dresses from my wardrobe and got a few maternity dresses on ebay.

I'm 14+6 today and just about managing some of my old trousers with the hairband trick, and some jersey/stretchy dresses.
Definitely need to go shopping, would love everyone's tips for affordable maternity wear.

I waited and waited... now 30 weeks and still don’t need them Grin starting to think I just won’t bother as seems pointless for the sake of 8 weeks....

Arecklessmanor · 01/08/2021 16:54

@SouthwestSis I got some maternity jeans from Dorothy Perkins online for £8 I think, they are either skinny jeans or jeggings, I know boyfriend jeans are more fashionable now but I don't really care.
Also got some cheap maternity clothes in the Next clearance section online, a few skirts and a pair of trousers that could look smart if I have to go to the office, currently working from home. Or just if I want to go out. They have some jumpers too and I have a few baggy jumpers that might fit for this winter.
I got some second hand dresses on ebay if you're happy with second hand.
Going to try the Asda non wired bras, my boobs have grown a lot.
I got M&S non wired bras a month ago and they are too small already, eek, so I'm happy to try a cheaper option for a while if they are comfortable. Possibly even the nursing options so I can wear them after the baby is born.
I'll probably need a few tops, either maternity or just a bigger size.
Next month plan to buy a coat that will get me through the winter, I might buy that second hand depending on what's out there. Or buy it new and maybe sell it on, I've seen some with a zippy panel and looks like they can be used after the baby arrives, it will be cold then (for both of us I'm only a little bit ahead of you).
Oh and I bought maternity knickers from H&M which looked enormous but tried them recently and they are very comfortable, if not exactly stylish.
Primark also have a maternity range but not in store near me and I haven't really been shopping in person yet.

LunaDreams · 01/08/2021 18:16

I'm 31 weeks and still wearing quite a few of my normal/pre-pregnancy tops.
Started wearing maternity leggings/jeans around 18 weeks.
Brought some nice dresses and more dressy maternity tops off ebay as didn't want to spend loads. Also brought some maternity black strappy vests that I wear under usual tops or with cardi's etc.

My advice would be to try and avoid buying too much ahead of actually needing it. I thought I was being clever bu buying loads around week 12 but then found they were too small when I actually needed to start wearing them.Have sized up in pyjamas the whole way through.

Been wondering this too - I’m currently 21+4 and still in my normal clothes! So think it might be quite variable. Mind you I was a size 16/18 to begin with which maybe makes it easier to avoid maternity clothes til a bit later?

21Bee · 01/08/2021 18:44

From experience (I don’t wear trousers), I bought normal, floaty dresses with empire waists in the next size up. I also made sure they had button or shirred tops for breastfeeding. My boobs became so massive for the year I breastfed although I could fit into my original clothing size I couldn’t squish my boobs in.

I’m 19 weeks and doing the hairband trick but definitely preferring comfy leggings over anything. I’ll switch to maternity when mine become tight but I do find primark have soft band leggings that stretch well. Just wear them with stuff that covers your bum though as they’re see through!

I bought these when I was pregnant with my last and I’m back in them now, they grow with you, are supportive but soft and are fab bras!! Save you buying loads as you size up and down.
