Scared - ectopic pregnancy?

About 15 mins ago I suddenly had very sharp pain in my left shoulder, so sharp it made me jump. This lasted for about 5 minutes and has since gone off. I now feel nauseous. Anyone experienced these symptoms? Was it an ectopic pregnancy? I’m so scared. I’ve googled my nearest EPU and it says you have to have a referral from a GP or midwife, which obviously is useless at 9.30pm on a Friday night!

You could call 111 and see what they suggest?

As someone that has had an ectopic, I discovered that shoulder pain is actually not that common… you generally get shoulder pain at the point of collapse/rupture.
I ruptured and was rushed to surgery, but had no shoulder pain.

If you have no bleeding, abdominal tenderness etc, it’s probably quite unlikely it’s ectopic… however, the symptoms vary so much for people. If you are concerned, ring 111 and tell them your symptoms… they will probably get an out of hours dr to call you to assess whether you need to go to EPU.

Good luck - I hope it’s just one of those random aches and pains 😊

I've had 2 ectopics both ruptured- shoulder tip pain is very misunderstood and is actually usually the last symptom you get before unconsciousness as its caused by internal bleeding reaching the diaphragm, it's a constant pain not an intermittent one

Thank you so much @SillyBry. The pain only lasted a few minutes and has since disappeared. The nausea also went off as quickly as it came on. No other pain or bleeding. I’ve come to bed now but will keep a close eye and will ring 111 if the pain comes back. I really hope it’s just a random pain, but it’s so scary when these things happen!

Oh thank you @ivfgottwins that’s really good to know. The nhs website is so vague! I’m so sorry to hear that you had 2 ectopics x

I didnt get shoulder pain with my ectopic, the doctor told me that was a sign of rupture but luckily mine was caught before it got to that stage. My symptom was sharp lower back pain, if you get any symptoms that you think could be ectopic call 111 because it can be life threatening so its best to catch it early ❤
