Is this the start of a miscarriage? (TMI)

Hey guys so I’m 7 weeks pregnant and started spotting last night. It has continued today but kinda tapered off a little. Yesterday it was light pink and today it is orange brown. I’m 20 years old and this will be my first baby I haven’t had a miscarriage before so I don’t know what to think. I have spent all day googling miscarriage stories and some of them say they started with light spotting hence why I’m worried. I have booked a private ultrasound which is on Sunday I’ll be 7 weeks 5 days then. I know no one can tell me for sure what’s going on but if a miscarriage is the most likely outcome please someone break it to me gently because I don’t want to get my hopes up and be told at my scan that there’s no heartbeat I’d rather not go at all then hear that. Here are photos of the spotting first pic is yesterday second one is today.

Spotting doesn’t always mean miscarriage. Have you called your local EPU? Are you in any pain at all? Xx

Grilledhalloumi19 · 29/07/2021 18:07

@babymuffinxo if it is a miscarriage, how long till I start bleeding heavy? I rang the local EPU they said to call back if I start bleeding more. I am having a few mild stomach and back pain. But it’s been that way since I found out I was pregnant so I don’t know if it’s a sign or not. X

So sorry you r going through this, I have been pregnant 4 times and miscarried all four started of with bleeding everybody docs an Al told me if it's brown it's old blood not to worry but I wish they had of been straight with me as I got my hopes up mine was brown and pinky red, but just to say not all bleeding turns to a loss and I hope you have a better outcome than me, I hope this post does not sound blunt but when I was in your shoes I just wanted someone to tell me yes it can turn out OK but then again it can't I think I would of dealt with it better xx

@Grilledhalloumi19
There's times when my heavy bleeding started within a couple of days then others it took like 2 weeks to start so if it is it can very a lot for different women xx

I had this between 5-7 weeks with two pregnancies - one ended in a missed miscarriage (full bleeding never began, I had an MVA procedure in hospital), the other was a perfectly healthy pregnancy carried to term. No cause for the bleed was ever found and was unexplained or likely from the cervix (no blood in the uterus either with the MC or my DC).

So from my experience it can be normal. Anecdotally, two of my sisters (who've had six successful pregnancies and one MC between them) had spotting, and sometimes full on bleeding, at the same time. One bled on and off until the second trimester, and again, no cause found and pregnancies successful.

So basically it doesn't necessarily mean the worst will happen at all, but if I were you I'd go to your local EPU and request a scan. Private scans are all very well, but if they do detect a problem they will just refer you back to the NHS and you'll have to go through the process all over again.

Sending Thanks - try not to worry too much.

I went to the EPU they scanned me with a probe that went inside and said everything looks fine and I heard baby’s heart beat. Now I know this is TMI but after I pooped today it happened again I started bleeding!!! I can’t exactly go back to EPU bcos they saw me yesterday and said all was fine so do any of you ladies know if it is normal to spot after bowel movements? It was definitely coming from the front and not the back. I went to the toilet about an hour ago and now there is no more red blood just tiny spotting when I wipe.

@Grilledhalloumi19
Good they seen a heartbeat how far they say u r, I have read its norm after a bowel movement goggle it and you will get a lot of stories on it.

babymuffinxo · 31/07/2021 19:18

Sorry for the personal question, but are you straining to make a bowel movement?

Trinacham · 31/07/2021 19:22

@Grilledhalloumi19 it has been normal for me in the first trimester to bleed after a bowel movement. Seems to have finally tapered off (for now), but I'm 14 weeks today! I've been spotting, cramping, actual bleeding (a couple of times big gushes) since 6 weeks. The worst of it was between 6-10 weeks. I've seen baby 3 times on scans and everything looks perfect. It is just one of those things for some of us. Try not to worry now you've had a heartbeat confirmed and seen baby Smile
