Ketones in urine

Sorry if anyone's squeamish! I had a blood and urine test this week and I had ketones in my urine at 50 mg/DL. Unfortunately my gynecologist is on holiday this week and I can't get hold of anyone to talk to about it, has anyone else had something similar? Was everything ok? My blood glucose levels were normal but I will ring up my GP tomorrow and try and get an appointment asap

I’ve had the same! Dad was in ICU and felt pain, went to maternity triage and ketones in pee. Basically means you’re body is burning fat for energy. You just need to make sure you are eating enough I was told. I thought I was but the stress probably meant I wasn’t xx

Could you be dehydrated? Drinking and eating enough?

It was done before I had eaten breakfast and I only had a sip of water

How many weeks are you? Are you being sick at all? I had this with hyperemesis and also again recently with a UTI x

As @Nc4post99 said. Your body is burning fat for energy. I had this when I had HG. I didn't have energy for anything. Do you have any other unusual symptoms? Have they offered you a follow-up appointment?

I'm not in the UK, blood tests have to be done at clinics not at the hospital

I'm 33 weeks, I hope it's a false positive as I had another 2 weeks ago (they do love blood tests here!) And nothing

I’m 32 weeks and had 3+ protein in my urine I don’t know what that equates to in your measurements? They didn’t seem too concerned they sent the sample to the lab and then a day or so later I started to feel unwell and they took me in my blood pressure was absolutely fine so they weren’t concerned about pre eclampsia but I did have a UTI so on antibiotics for that and that’s here in the UK. I don’t think they seem to be to concerned with the protein unless it’s with other symptoms?

It’s probably not a false positive for ketones, as those tests are quite accurate, however it is easily remedied by eating more. Unlikely one day has done any real damage, moving forward id just make a conscious effort to always have snacks to hand and get 3 meals in. It’s what I’ve been doing, my last babe was low birth weight so I’m ultra cautious xx
