NIPT and Downs

Hi All
First time here - 13w pregnant. Had the 12w scan and NT was at 2.87 / downs is at 1:14 and T13 at 1:80
Nervous as hell!!! Sent blood for the NIPT tests which I think is like the harmony. We have spoken about worst case but the stress is real.
Anyone in the same boat here? Anyone come out with results being that morning is wrong as I’ve read this allot but it’s luck of the draw

Hi, sorry you're going through this. I didn't get my risk until I'd had the bloods back so I would advise not to worry until you know your adjusted risk and then, only if that's "high". X

Confused521 · 29/07/2021 14:55

Ah, I have misunderstood. Were the results you were given NT + bloods and now you've had NIPT?

I've not had experience of this only reading many other accounts of all clear results after a scary initial NT result. Sending you lots of love.

Helpdesk3 · 29/07/2021 15:26

NT at 2.87 is considered normal - they can just give you a probability based in that. It's unheard off. Can I ask what your age is?

Nixxie33 · 29/07/2021 15:32

Hi yes blood and NT now sent for NIPT
It’s crazy though - someone warns you of the what could happen :( but holding thumbs

How old are you? That really skews the NHS screening tests xx

Taenia · 29/07/2021 17:22

Hey

I cant quite remember my numbers, they weren't as low as yours but still came back from the initial screening tests as high risk so I too had the NIPT. Was a worrying time but thankfully for us the NIPT test results were "very low risk" so we decided to leave it at that and not go any further :)

Results were back in 5 working days for us :)

Good luck!! Xx

Nixxie33 · 29/07/2021 17:41

Forgot to add that in - I’m 33 ... I’ve had covid at 5weeks read some studies that it can increase NT but nothing in full research so have to rule that out for now

Thanks so much @Taenia @Confused521*@Nc4post99 @Helpdesk3* for the messages. It’s highly appreciated Smile
Didn’t think I would get any replies - waiting patiently for the results - results where I am from takes 10 working days.

Sending you hugs. I had high risk too a few months ago and got the NIPT. Waiting for the result was horrible but it was all ok. I am sure it will be for you too x

Nixxie33 · 30/07/2021 05:14

@summerhillgang thanks so much for the positive vibes

@Nixxie33 I had very similar NT and also 1 in 14 screening, I’m 31. I was also really shocked and totally confused because my blood reasons weren’t that crazy. I ended up having an Amnio which came back all fine and the baby looks totally normal since then. It was incredibly stressful at the time- Wishing you luck, high chances are it’ll all be fine xxx

KTF367 · 30/07/2021 15:45

Nixxie33 · 30/07/2021 15:53

@KTF367 thanks sooooo much. I actually saw the doc today and they also said they always get these weird ratings and then everything is fine. I was more shocked on the 1:14 I was like well that’s a pretty clear sign but actually not. Crazy crazy! I’m 13w and we still haven’t told anyone so I’m waiting patiently.
Just wish I knew this before hand - so I could be prepped

Sorry, I don't know all the lingo, but what is do the abbreviations and numbers mean, @Nixxie33? I've also just had my screening back. I came back with 1 in 231 risk for Downs, and I'm not sure what to make of it.

Clarkey86 · 30/07/2021 16:19

I had a NIPT recently after getting 1 in 178 for downs (I’m 34) and although the wait was hellish it was super reassuring when it dropped to 1 in 45,000!

Sit tight, the chances are still way in your favour that it will all be fine :)

Nixxie33 · 30/07/2021 16:44

@Whaam NT is the nuchal translucency which is the fluid behind the neck done at 12 weeks. t13 is Trisomy 13 which is what they look for when they do blood - basically abnormalities.
Have you been for the NIPT or was that basic screening - the doc will usually advice to when needed to go. But if low risk then more your choice - where I’m from - you have to get a dr consent to get a NIPT and very expensive unless on a good medical. Sad for those who can’t afford and wanting to know - breaks my heart when I heard this.
Best of luck and keep us up to date if all goes well

@Clarkey86 that’s amazing - only positives on here which has made me feel a little less stressed. Thank you so much

@Nixxie33 I'm not in the UK anymore. Here, they send you for the NIPT if your probability from the initial screening is more than 1 in 1000. As mine was 1 in 231, they took bloods yesterday for the NIPT. I think the NT was normal, but my age and something in my bloods (must be low Papp-a and high hormones, though I didn't ask for the specifics) that gave the 1 in 231.

What was the probability they gave you from the initial screening? When do you get your NIPT results back? It's scary, isn't it?

Whaam · 30/07/2021 17:07

Ah, I just saw. Sorry, 1 in 14?

Clarkey86 · 30/07/2021 17:54

Also I don’t know where you live but my NIPT was private through the NHS and it said 10 days but it came back in 7.

Rmw99 · 30/07/2021 20:31

I'm surprised at that I thought anything under 3.5mm was considered 'safe' but saying that I'm a little nervous as mine came back with 2.5mm although she said it was fine I still.got a weird vibe of her it wasn't. Just waiting for blood results to come back x

KTF367 · 30/07/2021 22:59

@Rmw99 they told me that 3.5mm they’d recommend to go straight to Amnio but mine was 2.9 which was over the 95th percentile so I got recommended NIPT and referral to FMU

Nixxie33 · 31/07/2021 06:56

@Rmw99 I thought the same regarding 3.5 but then blood cane back 1 in 14 for downs and I was shocked - I’m now waiting for NIPT results but sooo many stories of it coming back negative - it’s the oddest thing but I guess the screening is just stats and calculations and not actual dna testing that the NIPT does
Best of luck hun - trust the process and stay positive we all in this together

Hi @Nixxie33 I've just been through this and got the news yesterday that the nipt is clear for all 3. My initial screening results put me at a 1 in 5 for downs and a 1 in 89 for the other two. My NT was 2.7, papp a 0.22 and hcg 1.04. I'm 33. The wait is horrendous and if you're anything like me you'll have spent the whole time googling! I really hope it all works out and you hear back ASAP!

Nixxie33 · 01/08/2021 12:28

@DoctorBambino I’m soooo happy for you! Glad all went well. It’s a crazy wait. Holding thumbs. Still so crazy on the stats that we get that makes us doubt absolutely everything. Another 6 working days to wait my side but we keeping positive. It’s been a bizarre ride - no one knows of my pregnancy due to the initial scan scare - I’ll be going on 16weeks when family and friends know - totally insane and never thought these things happen. But we all come out stronger from it.
