I have done my ivf egg transfer and I'm using canesten applicatior for Cyclogest pessary. Dr said its fine as the higher it is its better. It's gone in easy and I dont feel like I hit anything. Has anyone used it?

I used cylogest during my first two rounds of ivf and didn't bother with an applicator. If you're laying down for atleast 30mins after you shouldnt really need it. My third round though Ive been on utrogestan which came with applicators so I used them. You can't usually feel the pessary once it's in, but you will know that it's absorbed when you go to the toilet next as there is usually a bit of residue. That's normal though so don't worry about it, it still would have worked and be in your system

I used it for 2 rounds of IVF. Initially, I used it vaginally and just inserted it with my finger. (I was never given an applicator or advised to use one!) Even if I laid down, it was awfully messy. I had to wear big pants and panty liners because they always just melted out!

I ended up using them rectally. Not the most pleasant, but no mess or leaks like I had vaginally. I read up a great deal about the absorption from both routes, and the pack also says you can use them that way. I used to apply a small amount of lube to make it easier to insert rectally.

I'm on Cyclogest pessaries twice a day and while I've used them rectally in the past (to avoid messiness in the vagina during IVF egg collection/transfer), I usually find it most comfortable to just insert them into the vagina with my finger like a tampon. From what I've read the level of absorption is generally the same either way so different clinics and people will have their own preference.

If you are using them vaginally, it's best to lie down/sit with your feet up for about 30 mins afterwards so they have time to be fully absorbed (due to effects of gravity!) but I really don't think it matters that they are not up that high in the vagina as long as they are fully in there (mine aren't very high - I can still feel the pessary with my finger after I've inserted it).

There will also always be some waxy residue that's not absorbed however they are used imo - so if you are using them vaginally just be prepared to see it on the panty liner rather than coming out when you poo. My tip is to try to go straight to pee/wipe as soon as I get up to avoid the worst of the messiness for vaginal use!

However I can't see that using an applicator vaginally would hurt anything- my only concern would be whether you are making sure to clean it thoroughly each time to prevent getting any infection (since an applicator that is not designed to be reused must be harder to wash than a finger!).
